Honest opinions on this girls name?

Thanks for clicking!
So first baby is due in just over 11 weeks, and we have kept the sex a surprise.
We have a boys name set but still thinking about a girls name.
We both love Macy but my DP would love his late grandmothers name as the middle name.
The name is May.

Can we really have a Macy May?

Thanks for any input.

WanderingTrolley1 Did you mean to be so rude?

DramaAlpaca · 15/05/2017 00:33

You've asked for honest opinions so I'll be honest.

I really don't like cutesy names. Macy is cutesy, and Macy May is doubly so. It might be OK for a toddler, but not an adult.

I like May though, it's pretty.

scottishdiem · 15/05/2017 00:39

Macy May kind of sounds like the human side kick of a male superhero in a comic to be honest.

WanderingTrolley1 · 15/05/2017 06:24

I gave an honest opinion, as asked for, WhatToDo.

I think Macy May is kinda cute. But you would never say them together like that. If your surname is Jones for example, you would say Macy Jones, or if asked for full name, Macy May Jones. So never Macy-May, iykwim. Anyway I usually hate cutesy names but i like it.

SecretNutellaFix · 15/05/2017 12:03

I hate alliterative names, for the very good reason that my first and middle name and married name are all beginning with M.

Please don't. It gets very wearing when people who aren't gifted in the emotional intelligence dept think it's amusing to make mmm noises at you constantly. It was bad enough as a kid when my surname was a different letter, now it starts with M as well the "bantz" usually consist of m-m-mmm!

Please reconsider.

Imstickingwiththisone · 15/05/2017 12:14

I think people over think middle names. Macy may sounds cute to some people and not so cute to others, but it doesn't matter. No one even remembers my DCs middle names, they're never used in day to day.

For what it's worth i don't think Macy may sounds that bad. Both names have meaning to you and your dp. If you wanted to avoid it though you could add another name in there, it doesn't have to be a relation. In fact i think Macy Katherine may as was suggested sounds really nice. I think people commenting on MM is a bit oversensitive too. If it's not mm then it'll be oh like macy Gray. People just say things to make conversation or to joke there's really no need to be offended.

Personally I think Macy May is too matchy as you get the "May" sound twice so May-see-May. It's cutesy like Lou-bee-Lou.

Would you consider something similar to Macy with the "see" ending but without the May sound at the start, e.g. Lucy, Elsie, Josie, Grace/Gracie, Darcy, Cassie?

SecretNutellaFix · 15/05/2017 12:46

It's not offensive- it's tedious, it's grindingly irritating, it's boring but they think they're being funny.

Being on the recieving end of non original commentary about your name or initials is frustrating and a bit of my patience for small talk and people in general dies a little bit each time.

29Palms · 15/05/2017 13:02

Why not just May, and use Macy as a pet name?

vitaminC · 15/05/2017 13:11

It's not the type of name I'd normally go for, but I actually think it sounds quite nice.
To the PP who mentioned it looking tacky on the child's future CV: I don't know of anyone who puts their middle name on their CV! Hmm

oleoleoleole · 15/05/2017 13:37

Love it, think it's fine.

lrliml · 15/05/2017 13:46

Macy May sounds lovely, though it does rhyme with Macy Gray Smile. Lets face it she is just going to go by Macy anyway and you're never going call her the name in full so I can't see why the alliteration matters!
