Recently I have come across this name and was wondering if people generally like or dislike it? I think it used to be a bit more common but not too sure...

Lovely OP.

I'm not a fan.

PodgeBod · 12/05/2017 20:57

I like it. It's a happy sort of name.

StarUtopia · 12/05/2017 20:59

Awful.

SuperBeagle · 12/05/2017 21:00

I don't like it. It ends up being pronounced "summa" here, which is awful.

WinterWonders · 12/05/2017 21:06

My dd is called Summer! She is 9yrs old.
We still love the name as much as we did when we chose to it. I'm sad to see that some of you don't like it, but I guess it would be boring if we all liked the same things!

TheLegendOfBeans · 12/05/2017 21:07

For a weird reason I think of it as a "mean girl's" name.

I also don't think anyone that doesn't live in California or the Gold Coast can name their child it without it being a bit naff.

WinterWonders · 12/05/2017 21:09

P.s I'm interested by the fact it has been referred to as 'unimaginative' on this thread! Really?! I had only ever heard of one other Summer (actress) when we chose that name, so I can't agree with you on that one.

CreamCheez · 12/05/2017 21:09

I like it. But only if born in summer...

Gazelda · 12/05/2017 21:11

I didn't used to like it. I thought it was too common (in the sense that loads of babies were given the name, not in the 'low brow' sense).
But I've come to know a girl named Summer. She's beautiful, funny, intelligent and a really sunny little girl. So now I think it's a really nice name.

WinterWonders · 12/05/2017 21:14

P.p.s our Summer was born in the summer, but that didn't even cross our mind when choosing the name!

2014newme · 12/05/2017 21:16

Don't like

2014newme · 12/05/2017 21:16

Yes it's naff. Horribly so.

2014newme · 12/05/2017 21:17

It is low brow yes

BuzzKillington · 12/05/2017 21:18

I think it's very naff indeed.

WinterWonders · 12/05/2017 21:19

Lowbrow? Really?!? How kind Hmm

DarkFloodRises · 12/05/2017 21:19

I love it. I don't know any.

Ragwort · 12/05/2017 21:20

No I don't like it - just doesn't sound like a 'name' IYKWIM. , I know a Winter and always snigger at the thought of Summer and Winter getting together.

Dolwar · 12/05/2017 23:34

So the phrase low brow isn't liked.
Ok. We need a different phrase.
Then it's chavvy where I live.

lrliml · 12/05/2017 23:39

Very popular in Australia! But then again, many of the popular names in Australia would be considered 'low brow' in the UK. Perhaps it's refreshing that the Australians don't seem to worry about that so much!

Mrsknackered · 12/05/2017 23:39

Oh fuck off Dolwar

Chavvy isn't any better. And you know it.

Murine · 13/05/2017 06:28

I love it, it was on our shortlist for DD2, such a sunny, happy sounding name.

KoalaDownUnder · 13/05/2017 06:45

Oh right, so 'low brow' is the new, socially-acceptable 'chavvy'. Nice. Hmm

I think Summer is really pretty and happy-sounding. It's not my favourite, but I far prefer it to the mumsnet-approved Beatrix Penelope Genevieve.

emmyrose2000 · 13/05/2017 07:03

Hate it. But then I hate all names that are really days of the week, months/times of the year, seasons, weather etc.
