middle name that honours MIL but to go with...

We love the name Roisin (pronounce Ro - sheen). Would like to use my late MIL's name 'Rita' as a middle name but I don't think it goes. So looking at variations but not got on Margaret either.

Would love some thoughts on:

Roisin Rita
Roisin Margaret
Roisin Marita

OH doesn't really mind if we don't use his mum's name (though I think it would be nice if we did)

If not I'm thinking:

Roisin Orla

Our surname is short so I think a longer middle name sounds better.

Did Mil have a middle name? Just thinking you could honour her by making your dd's initials the same?

I think it's a really lovely sentiment but Roisin Rita is a mouthful

MagnumAddict · 05/05/2017 16:48

If you'd prefer to stick with your original plan I think the best fit is Roisin Margaret.

Good luck with picking a name and really sorry for your loss Flowers

Kathysclown · 05/05/2017 16:51

Marguerite?

I love alliterative names so like Roisin Rita. But even if you don't like the flow, really, how often will both names be used? Is it often enough not to choose it?

squoosh · 05/05/2017 16:59

Tbh I think you should either use the person's name or choose another name unconnected to them. Using a name that's not her name but sounds a bit like her name seems a bit half-hearted.
I think Roisín Rita sounds fine.

NuffSaidSam · 05/05/2017 17:07

I think of your choices Rosin Margaret sounds best.

I like Rosin Marguerita better though.

Or do as pp suggested as give DD the same middle name as MIL. Or is there a name that you know MIL loved? You could use that so that MIL has had a little say in the name of her Granddaughter.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/05/2017 17:08

Roisin Margarita.

Elllicam · 05/05/2017 17:10

Roisin Margot?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/05/2017 17:11

How about Roisin Zarita ?

chainedtothedesk · 05/05/2017 17:18

Thanks for the suggestions.

MIL's middle name was Mary. Not really a fan. And seems a bit one step removed if you know what i mean.

Not keen on Margarita - makes me think of pizza.

I like Margo but OH doesn't. And sorry not that keen on Zarita.

I did like Roisin Matilda (not connected to MIL) but OH not mad on it.

Roisin Mary is lovely. Very Irish. Much better than Roisin Rita.

Rockaby · 05/05/2017 17:38

How about a middle name in between?

E.g. Roisin Sophie Rita

MagnumAddict · 05/05/2017 17:53

Just another one saying I think Roisin Mary is lovely

Biscuitsneeded · 05/05/2017 18:02

Rita comes from Marguerite. Marguerites are daisies. How about Daisy as a middle name? Or Greta (also same derivation)?

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/05/2017 18:02

I quote like Roisin Rita but it very much depends on the surname.

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/05/2017 18:03

Or as Biscuits says, Roisin Marguerite would be nice.

Rockaby · 05/05/2017 18:05

I do like Roisin Rita though agree it might depend on surname.

Roisin Rita Macfarlane
Roisin Rita Harrison
Roisin Rita O'Carroll

All nice!

Roisin Rita Rutherford

Not so nice.

defnotadomesticgoddess · 05/05/2017 18:07

How about Roisin Maria?

courtwood · 05/05/2017 18:58

Roisin Mairead?

bridgetreilly · 05/05/2017 20:50

I have the kind of name where there are a lot of variations and similar names. I would NOT feel honoured at all if a friend or relation gave their child one of those variations or similar names, because they are not my name. So I would say if you want to give her your MIL's name, you do that. And if you choose another name, you don't.

ChippersAndRunt · 05/05/2017 23:46

Roisin Rita is fine imo.

Roisin Margaret?
Roisin Greta (Which is short for Margareta and therefore somewhat connected to Rita... I think.)
Roisin Marianne

29Palms · 06/05/2017 01:34

I think Roisin Rita sounds lovely, and fine with a short surname.
Roisin Rita Short
Nothing wrong with the rhythm, there's quite a lilt to it, and nobody else is likely to have that combination.

I agree that if you want to name a child after someone, you should give them that name or not bother.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 06/05/2017 01:45

I think it works. The more you say it the more it works. You just have to pause a bit before the Rita. It's not like you're going to use it every day are you? It's not hyphenated. Only time you'll need it is when you've already yelled her for her tea fifty bloody tomes and you lose it. ROISIN RITA XXXXXXX WILL YOU GET DOWN HERE! NOWWWWWW!!!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 06/05/2017 01:47

I like Roisin Marita, actually. That passes the shouting up the stairs test for me!
Or Roisin Maria (same number of syllables)
