I like Magnus and William from your boys and Louisa and Erica from your girls best.

I do quite like Florian and Apolline but they seem quite "out there" compared to Clarissa, which is unusual but much more traditional IMO.

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 10:04

(assuming you and DH aren't petite)

That made me grin. It diddn't even occur to us to think about this!

DH was actually a rather small/delicate looking boy. And then he looked gangly. At least looking at photos from that time...
But he grew up to be pretty long and muscular. And I've never been small or delicate (more like tall-ish and muscular)... So, I think we're good at that front?

So... I think pretty much everyone likes Louisa but that's the only consensus on the girl's list, did I get that right?

Whereas Florian is a bit of a marmite name, I guess...

Guardian
Huh, interesting. Thanks :) Annabella and Daphne were actually on our list but we took them off (for different reasons).

I really like Louisa and Adaline

With the connection of your frandmather maybe consider florianne
One of my current favs

Redpramlady · 03/05/2017 10:20

Grandmother!!

WhiteHairReally · 03/05/2017 14:51

Because to some it would appear very very girly.

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 15:41

Red
I do like Florianne. But Flor.... Names have been done to death in my family for women/girls, tbh. But I agree, it is a lovely name.

OP posts:
NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 03/05/2017 15:44

Magnus
Ada

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 15:48

White... Thay's too bad. :( I don't want a boy named Sue situation.

DH also likes Henry (basically my insanely grumpy gandfather's name) and David, the name of a friend who also happens to be the husband of my ex, who is a v good friend of mine... Naming babies is hard.

And if we don't figure this out I will panick and DH will name the poor boy Ignatius.

William and Louisa

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 15:51

Or Apolline Thomasina (I'm about 99% sure he'd go with either of those if he needed to make a quick decision)

OP posts:
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/05/2017 18:45

Apolline Thomasina is fabulous.
Louisa is also a beautiful name, would she be Louisa Thomasina, or something else ?
Still love Jonathan, and also like David.

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 22:34

Sugar

Sorry, just saw that now. I also like Apolline Thomasina, yes...

But her middle name won't be Thomasina. DH likes it and knows it's one of my favourite names (And would probably therefore use it)... But my father hates the tradition of naming children after the father etc...

I also like David. But wouldn't it be weird. "hey ex OH/good friend. I named DC2 after your husband. Isn't that just adorable?" Idk.

OP posts:
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/05/2017 08:50

😂😂 😂 Indeed !
I need to read more slowly. Definitely not David ... 😜

QuietNameChange · 04/05/2017 19:25

Unfortunately not David. Grin

That's the problem with having a family that cares enough to remember pretty much everybody they're somewhat related to (as in, the children of my greatgrandmother's sister... And their children etc... there are so many names that have already been used several times.) Can't use Philip or Milo either (although I do like those names).

Rockaby · 04/05/2017 21:39

My favourites are William, Magnus and Louisa.

QuietNameChange · 04/05/2017 22:20

Rockaby

Thank you for your input. I personally really love Louisa. I myself am admittedly somewhat unsure about William. Although it seems to be the only name nobody dislikes (except for some concerns about William -> Willy)

I'm running in circles, tbh. Maybe I should do what DH has suggested quite some time ago and agree to knowing the gender in advance.

Kazzawazza69 · 04/05/2017 22:34

Love Isadora (this spelling - Isidora just doesn't look right to me) and think it goes beautifully with Clarissa which is lovely by the way!

Not so keen on your boys names but William is my favourite. Sorry but I really dislike Florian and Magnus.

LizzieMacQueen · 04/05/2017 22:38

Do you shorten Clarissa?

LykkeStrom · 04/05/2017 22:38

We adore Apolline, and it was on the shortlist for our July baby until we realised it was in the top ten baby names in France last year (we're in Paris).

Almost tempted to move back to the UK so we can use it...

sticklebrix · 04/05/2017 22:50

Anthony, William, Jonathan - fine
Florian - no
Magnus - love it

Have you considered Hugh?

Erica -not keen
Louisa - lovely
Isidora - might spend her whole life repeating 'Isidora-with-an-'i''
Adaline (do you prefer Ada?) - I misread this as 'adrenaline'. But like Ada
Apolline - lovely. Could use Polly or Lina as NNs.

QuietNameChange · 04/05/2017 22:52

lizzie
Yes we do shorten Clarissa in many ways. If it matters I could PM you? (Her nickname is my username, and seeing as I deliberately namechanged for this thread...)

lykke

Ah, you seem to be of a similar opinion as my DH ;) Although, I must admit I thought it was in the top 100 and not the top 10 in France. Oh well... It doesn't really matter (to us).

kazza

I love Florian. But as I said, no boy names Sue. Maybe it would be better as a middle name?

OP posts:
sticklebrix · 04/05/2017 23:10

I know a Florian. He's a lovely boy but his name didn't seem to grow with him, IYSWIM. It feels (to me) like a name that suits young boys but is a bit hit and miss with teenagers and men. Great middle name though.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/05/2017 23:15

I'm going to be different and say Erica. And I prefer William, but Magnus might suit you better!

LizzieMacQueen · 05/05/2017 11:49

Re shortening her name, I asked to clarify what the sound of her name was day to day, eg Lissa or Clarrie sound quite different and may affect your choice for your second child.

grufallosfriend · 05/05/2017 14:03

I like Magnus best. I dislike William (esp Willy, Billy).

For a girls I like Apolline and Louisa best.
