Aubrey or Avery?

We don't like Audrey.

Which do you prefer? Aubrey or Avery?

Can people please not be extremely negative? I can deal with some, but I'm extremely stressed. She needs to be registered soon and I'd really like it to be a name we like without being put off.

I love Aubrey Smile

It's really strange that some posters say that they have only heard of this name being used on boys as I'm the complete opposite.

I have always associated Avery as a boys name and only ever heard girls being called Aubrey Confused

Sophronia · 01/05/2017 17:03

I like Aubrey.

blackcherries · 01/05/2017 17:19

I know someone with a young son called Aubrey.

Rockaby · 01/05/2017 17:39

I prefer Avery Smile.

WorryLessCherishEveryDay · 01/05/2017 18:05

I thought it was a boy not a girl but I like Aubrey better.

Ontopofthesunset · 01/05/2017 18:16

To me they're both boys' names. Avery seems a bit more more unisex than Aubrey because it's a surname rather than a traditional first name, so I suppose it could be used for either sex.

Backhometothenorth · 01/05/2017 18:38

Avery is lovely. I also like Avril

eleven59 · 01/05/2017 18:39

How about Audra?

WheresTheEvidence · 01/05/2017 18:40

Both Aubrey and Avery are male names

ErrolTheDragon · 01/05/2017 18:55

Avery seems a bit more more unisex than Aubrey because it's a surname rather than a traditional first name, so I suppose it could be used for either sex.

They're both also surnames.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 01/05/2017 18:59

Aubrey. Avery is definitely a boy's name... Aubrey does seem a bit girlier, not sure why, tbh.

But Audrey would be nicer. At least imo.

ArseyTussle · 01/05/2017 19:00

I prefer Avery. I think if you go for Aubrey you'll be constantly explaining it's not Audrey.

I say A-ver-y. Three syllables.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 01/05/2017 19:01

I know a girl named Aubrey and a man named Avery. And, according to stats, Aubrey is apparently a currently surprisingly popular girl's name (whereas Avery is still more popular for boys than for girls)...

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/05/2017 19:12

Avery is beautiful. ❤️
Not keen on Aubrey, think of if as masculine.

Redpramlady · 01/05/2017 19:57

I really like Aubrey :-)

Ontopofthesunset · 01/05/2017 20:47

They are both surnames but Aubrey has a long tradition of being used as a first name and I don't think Avery has.

RainbowJack · 01/05/2017 22:45

Avery

Firsttimemama2017 · 01/05/2017 22:54

Aubrey is cute! No keen on Avery- there is a male character on Nashville with that name.

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 01/05/2017 23:01

First

There's also a (male) deatheater in HP called Avery. But I don't think he's all that famous.

buttercup54321 · 01/05/2017 23:10

Aubree

buttercup54321 · 01/05/2017 23:12

Brianna? (Bree anna)

Mrsknackered · 02/05/2017 10:37

Avery.

I know you're saying 80 girls got named it but I still see Courtney, Taylor and Ashley as boys names no matter how many girls I meet with those names. In fact I adore all of the above for boys, and can't stand them on girls.

That being said I do have a bit of a unisex name and it doesn't bother me when I meet guys with the same name I just think it suits me better

Loola24 · 02/05/2017 10:52

Aubrey is much nicer. Not as keen on Avery, I do know a baby girl called Avery and I actually think they both sound like girls names so I don't see that as a problem.
People will, can and do pick holes in any names and will associate it with different things. Go with your gut instinct and it will all be fine.
Good luck with the birth SmileSmile

Oh re-read you need to register. Definitely Aubrey
