Gwyneth or Ffion

My husband is first language Welsh which is why we are choosing a Welsh first name although we live in England.
I think we are set for a boys name and until recently I loved Ffion for a girl but as the due date approaches I am starting to wobble. DH prefers Gwyneth which I do really like but somehow can't imagine it for a baby.

Any thoughts?

Ffion definitely it's a lovely name.

What about Gwenno instead of Gwyneth.

Ffion by a country mile. It's a beautiful name.

I also really love Anwen, just to throw another one out there lol. My husband in theory wants a welsh name for our baby but then either doesn't actually like any or only likes ones that I think are boring 🙄

Dilys seems a bit old ladyish. But not in a good way! What was the name of the Welsh character on (the godawful) Hi De Hi? Was she a Dilys?

GraceBlish · 30/04/2017 18:07

Eleri definitely!

Please not Dilys or Delyth. There are so many lovely Welsh names, those are not amongst them.

Ffion is lovely, it's on my short list of girls names. I also love Elin and rhian.

Where I come from in Wales gwyneth can be shortened to gwen which is also used as a bit of an insult eg clothing looking gwennie meaning not good/old fashioned.

Out of the two names I'd go for Ffion.

I like the names Nia, Rhian and Seren.
