I like Cicely (after Cicely, Alaska) but not Cecily - would it just be a pain in the bum / spelling chore for a DD?

How is it pronounced - Sicily?

CaulkheadNorth · 27/04/2017 19:54

Is cicely pronounced like Cecily or like Sicily?

Rockaby · 27/04/2017 19:55

Is it pronounced the same as Sicily? It's pretty, but I think I prefer Cecily. Would it be a first or middle name? I think it would be fine as a middle name, but maybe a bit annoying to have to spell out a lot as a first name.

Buffythebabywearer · 27/04/2017 19:55

Pronounced like Sicily, yes.

X post!

MagnumAddict · 27/04/2017 19:57

It looks a but awkward to read for my eyes if that makes sense, not sure if it looks misspelled as such. I like how it sounds but prefer Cecily which I think is lovely.

UrsulaPandress · 27/04/2017 19:57

Love it.

CaulkheadNorth · 27/04/2017 20:00

I think I would expect it to be spelt Sicily if it's pronounced that way.

Tricky name to pronounce if you have a lisp.

allegretto · 27/04/2017 20:02

I like it. I definitely wouldn't write it Sicily though- Cicely is the proper spelling.

Slacktacular · 27/04/2017 20:03

Dame Cicely Saunders is an awesome famous Cicely! I like it

girlandboy · 27/04/2017 20:08

I know a Cicely. She's never had a problem with her name. I love it Grin

Badgoushk · 27/04/2017 20:10

I have always liked the name and considered for my DD x 2. But although I know it is 'Cicely', I thought others might think it is 'Sicily'. And I think the latter would be a horrid name, despite the exact same pronunciation.

NennyNooNoo · 27/04/2017 20:36

There was a fairly well known children's book with a Cicely in - was it the Wool Pack? She was a tomboy which came as a surprise as I had pictured a Cicely as very girly.

Nessalina · 27/04/2017 20:48

Cicely (pron. Sicely) is a botanical-based name, a herb I believe! I love it, it's on my girls shortlist Smile Weirdly I'd not even considered Cecily, though Googling tells me it's a derivative of Cicely.
The meaning of the name however is 'blind' which is a bit of a downer Confused

Buffythebabywearer · 27/04/2017 21:18

Ness DS's name means bald (didn't look up the meaning until later ) so that would make a great pairing!

Gorgeous, but be prepared for questions Oh Was she conceived there

SuperBeagle · 27/04/2017 21:48

I'd assume it was a misspelling of Cecily or Sicily.

Why not use Alaska? There's a book called Looking for Alaska (never read it, honestly) which has a main character in it called Alaska, so it might be a bit more acceptable than you'd think.

KatherinaMinola · 27/04/2017 21:52

Lovely. I would pronounce Cecily the same as Cicely, btw - both as a homophone for Sicily.

WowserBowser · 27/04/2017 22:31

But Cecily is Cess - uh - lee?

KatherinaMinola · 27/04/2017 22:32

Can be pronounced either way, Wowser, like Cecil.

MollyHuaCha · 27/04/2017 22:36

I like it Smile

AvaCrowder2 · 27/04/2017 22:37

Cicely is a name that I love. I think from flower fairies.

I like Cora too.

MyfanwyMontez · 27/04/2017 22:40

I would pronounce it the way Wowser does.I think it's lovely and unusual.

WowserBowser · 27/04/2017 22:40

Oh, you mean like See - sull. It's my dd's name.

Sophronia · 27/04/2017 23:10

I like it!
