Kirrily's Sister

Our daughter's name is Kirrily Diana. It's an old Australian name that we found in my family tree. I think it's absolutely gorgeous and we both love it so, so much. Now, Diana was a name we considered for Kirrily's first name but we didn't like the nickname Di, so it became her middle name.
Now, we are expecting a daughter. We like the names, Aviva, Aurelia and Aurora. Aurora's my middle name so there's a nice link but DH doesn't love it. Kirrily and Aurelia is a little hard to say. Not everybody likes Aviva. I think it's beautiful though. What would you choose?

It seems like you prefer Aviva? I mean, it's a nice name and it's your decision. But I personally wouldn't... It's the 5th (?) biggest insurance company worldwide...

Aminta, Clarissa, Carlotta, Arabella, Araminta, Antonia, Aglaia, Astraea, Assunta, Albertina, Allegra....?

DramaAlpaca · 26/04/2017 22:54

As you are not in the UK or Ireland I think you'd be safe enough going for Aviva.

Like others have said it's the name of a big insurance company who sponsor a sports stadium in Dublin, so it would raise eyebrows this side of the pond.

Personally I like Aurelia and Aurora better, but it's your choice and like I always say on here you should go for a name you really love.

SuperBeagle · 26/04/2017 23:34

Matilda is just about the most Australian name out there (even though it's origin is German).

If you're wanting to keep with the theme, go with Matilda.

I think Aurelia and Aurora are very difficult to say. Plus, Aurelia reminds me of areola. Aviva sounds like the name of a football stadium or something.

heebiejeebie · 26/04/2017 23:38

Romy. That's definitely the best name. Pull the thread now.

mrscrocopop · 27/04/2017 08:14

I think Aviva is a lovely name. It wouldn't work here in U.K. (as mentioned above) but it's highly unlikely Aviva will take over the US so I reckon you'll be fine!
Aurelia is also beautiful.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 27/04/2017 08:35

According to wikipedia:

In addition, Aviva has a focus on five markets in Europe and, in Asia, the company is focused on the growth markets of China and South East Asia. Aviva is also the second largest general insurer in Canada.

Idk. I mean... If the OP is going to stay in the US? But I don't think the name would travel well.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 27/04/2017 08:41

I have an Aviva swipe card around my neck at the moment so struggle to think of it as a name.

Aviva withdrew from the US in the late 2000s and I don't think they are planning to go back. That could change though - the world moves very fast. They are in Australia if you have family links to Australia.

regularbutpanickingabit · 27/04/2017 08:50

Agree on the Aviva problem - it's not just about wheee you live now, it's about where she will travel and work and live in the future!

Similar feeling names to me that go with Kirrily would be:
Amira (a-meer-a)
Amelie
Neri
Eliana

regularbutpanickingabit · 27/04/2017 08:50

Or Amaya?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/04/2017 09:16

I love Kirrily and Aurelia.
How about ;
Kirrily and Arietty
Kirrily and Adeline
Kirrily and Keziah
Kirrily and Jessamy

ShotsFired · 27/04/2017 09:22

If not Adelaide, how about Adeline?

Aurora - isn't that Sleeping Beauty? Sure there is a Disney song which is all "Priiiincesssss Aurrrrrorraaaaa"?

You can't call her Aviva though.

ShotsFired · 27/04/2017 09:23

(oops, cross posted with @Sugarpiehoneyeye!)

Wreckingball25 · 27/04/2017 09:24

I know an Aizura, vey pretty name. I also know an Australian Kirrily Smile

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 27/04/2017 09:25

Aviva is actually a lovely sounding name. If you are American and live in America then definitely go for it.

LittleBearPad · 27/04/2017 09:26

I wouldn't go with Aviva (insurance) or Oriana (cruise ship)

Aurora's a bit Disney.

Kirily and Aurelia will be a bugger to shout in the park but it's the nicest name. Do you plan to shorten either.

Mrsknackered · 27/04/2017 10:43

What about?

Azura
Amalie
Amethyst
Anaïs
Amaya
Amara
Aaliyah

I like the sound of Aviva too but I can't get the insurance company out of my head.
I'm not a fan of Aurelia. Kirrily is great!

harderandharder2breathe · 27/04/2017 18:46

I love Aurora

I like Auerelia but it is clunky to say with Kirrily

I can't think of Aviva except as the insurance company sorry. I guess it's not an issue if you're in the US though

Rockaby · 27/04/2017 19:39

Aurora is my favourite, but Aviva is nice too. I'm not all that keen on Aurelia.

user1471547428 · 27/04/2017 21:08

Go for Aviva if no one knows the company where you are. It's a beautiful hebrew name. If she moves to the UK she can always go by Vivi or Viva.

JasonDerulo · 27/04/2017 21:25

Alessia?

WankersHacksandThieves · 27/04/2017 21:39

Aviva - Insurance
Aurelia - too close too Areola (Nipple)
Aurora - dog chewing a toffee

Amarys?

mathanxiety · 28/04/2017 05:48

Aviva is lovely, and would work in the US. I know several Jewish children with this name. It had a burst of popularity where I live about 10 years ago...

You have no guarantee that Aviva the insurance company will keep its name, or that if you were to choose Aurora, or whatever, someone wouldn't use the name for a car, etc..

I think Aurora is too Disney, but I love Aurelia. However, I think it lends itself to Oral the same way Oriana might. Maybe a name with a Y or EE ending might suit Kirilly better?

Romy
Avery
Nancy
Leonie
Sylvie
Cassie
Leilani
Naomi
Sydney (Australian as it gets...)

FrenchLavender · 28/04/2017 06:01

If you are living in America then I think it's pretty safe to pick Aviva if it's your preferred option, no one there will associate it with a brand name.

Also, it flows a bit better with Kirrily than Aurelia, too many L sounds are a bit tricky to say together. Although personally I prefer Aurelia.

FrenchLavender · 28/04/2017 06:04

Also I don't get all the recent love for Adeline and Adelaide on Mumsnet, I think they are both ugly sounding and very old lady but not in a good way. To me they are in the same camp as Hilda, Enid, Edna and Gertrude. Awful.

BasicBetty · 28/04/2017 10:46

Aurora definitely.
