Anthony

Magnus

Phileas (my favourite)

Blaise (I love it... But I'm a bit hesitant because of the meaning. What if a classmate finds out about it when they're a teen? what if our LO does have a lisp?)

Hector

Jonathan

I personally think we're having a boy this time around (I don't want to know in advance)... And we unfortunately still don't have a boy's name. The only one DH vetoed was Severin, btw...

Yeah, I feel like every big dog was called Rex or Bruno in the 90ies where I grew up (not the UK. Funny enough, I also have an uncle named Bruno. I used to be very enterained by that when I was little... Wink)

Illumniator

I honestly don't get it. Why try hard? I mean... I don't get what you (and others!) say when call a name try hard. Try hard to do what? Confused

I personally think Hector is a bit harsh. It's entertaining to me personally that somebody else thinks the name is hppyish ;)
As for Jonathan.... I don't dislike it. If somebody were to tell me tomorrow that the LO's name (if a boy, of course) had to be Jonathan for some crazy but absolutely crucial reason I'd be ok with it.

But I don't love the name. Not sure if that makes sense...

I think people mean 'trying too hard' to be different/unusual. I get it.
I knew a Hector. His family were very hippyish that's where my association comes from. That's where a lot of people's associations with certain names comes from.

I really like Magnus.
Not a fan of Phileas because in full it reminds me on phineus and then I think of Phineus and Ferb, and I wouldn't like it shortened to Phil.
Jonathan and Anthony are a bit meh, nothing wrong with them but not names I love either.
Hector is OK, not something I'd choose personally but I don't dislike it.
Blaise I'd say no but not because of your reason, more because it's pronounced the same way as Blaze and I hate that monster machine with a passion Grin

WhiskyChick · 23/04/2017 17:58

Blaise sounds like a bit of a stripper name to me, just can't imagine a wee girl in gingham being called that. Sorry :(

NameChange30 · 23/04/2017 18:00

Anthony, by a long way. I like the name in itself and the nicknames Ant or Tony.

I think of Blaise as a French name - are you and/or your DH French? Obviously there are non-French people with the name, but I don't like the English pronunciation (Blaze?) and I think you'd find a lot of English speakers wouldn't know how to spell or pronounce it. But if you and/or your DH were French, or lived in France, I'd say go for it. (The correct French pronunciation is lovely.)

I don't like the other names, sorry. Slight preference for Magnus over the others (although it would make me wonder if he had a Scottish connection - does he?)

I mean, God love the little girl in a gingham called Blaise. But I personally wouldn't name a girl Blaise either. I agree with you on that.

namechange I grew up in a country where French is a national language. it's not my first language, but my French is rather decent and I have French speaking relatives (and relatives that actually live in France as well.)

Shoot, I wanted to google Phineas and ferb but didn't...

Ooh, I'm intrigued.. Belgium? Luxembourg? Canada? An African country?

Is your first language English or something else?

(Sorry for all the nosy questions!)

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 23/04/2017 19:44

So. Boys names are kind of fixed.

It's either Anthony, Blaise or Magnus.

Now I have to worry about girl's names (but I'm still convinced DC2 will be a boy... But eh. I may be wrong). Thank you so much. And have a nice evening:)!!

Magnus
Jonathan
Hector

CakeRattleandRoll · 24/04/2017 09:13

Hector is great. Like Magnus too.
For some reason, I always think of Blaise as a girl's name.

Blaise has apparently been used surprisingly often for girls (according ti names.darkgreener...)

Whilst I do love the name.... It may be very a "boy named Sue-ish"... Not exactly something to aim for...

My favourites are Magus and Anthony. But I think we're keeping Jonathan and Hector in mind... Just because. What if we do have a boy (and I'll say "I was right" yo DH if we do Wink) but he doesn't suit Anthony or Magnus.... ? Then we have two other name options we both like.

Jonathan, closely followed by Hector.
