Traditional, under used names?

Another baby name thread from me - less than 8 weeks to go and no further forward with names!

For girls we both like :
Robyn
Erin

For boys we like
Callum
Euan

There seems to be a lot of Callum's about at the moment so kind of gone off that name.

We like traditional names but not overly common. Don't like 'old fashioned' names that seem to making a comeback (Nancy, Alfie etc - no offence to anyone just not our cup of tea). Also, must be easy and obvious to spell (Euan is giving me issues as 2 very different ways of spelling)

Any other suggestions? I feel like I've been on every google baby name page!!

None of those are under used are they? The Times used to produce a list of the 100 most popular names. Don't use one from these lists and you may find an under used one. I could give you some ideas but I'm not sure we have the same taste in names!

MelinaMercury · 18/04/2017 23:24

Robyn, Erin and Callum were on our shortlist. None are overly popular here although we did choose other names but only because i fell in love with them :)

Some others from our list were:
Evan
Marcus
Amber
Francesca
Allana
Cassie

Penny was a name I heard at a baby group the other day

Jane
Julie
Alice

John
Peter
Henry

Ontopofthesunset · 18/04/2017 23:28

Those aren't traditional and under used. They're fashionable and very popular.

I was thinking you meant names like John, Peter, Paul, Mary, Jane and Sarah. Those are traditional and currently under used.

NotAMammy · 18/04/2017 23:31

I love Rowan, for either a girl or a boy, but I think I prefer girl.
It's old but still a bit unusual I think.
How about Owen instead of Euan?

justdontevenfuckingstart · 18/04/2017 23:33

So you want a traditional not overly common but easy to spell but not obvious, not old fashioned name

Ian

CuppaTeaTeddy · 18/04/2017 23:35

@justdontevenfuckingstart lush names 😍😂

justdontevenfuckingstart · 18/04/2017 23:36

Cuppa I can't even figure out if if I am taking the piss or not anymore.

CuppaTeaTeddy · 18/04/2017 23:39

I think I'm in the mood to laugh at everything tonight, but I need to see your comments more haha.

MelinaMercury · 18/04/2017 23:43

Why take the piss?

Seriously it seems as though if you don't want to call your kid Atticus or Octavia then there's no point in using the baby name boards. Is there really any need to be snide about a name? [Hmm]

spankhurst · 18/04/2017 23:53

Roger, Robert, Robin, Jeremy, Philip, Anthony.
Julia, Helen, Sylvia, Alison, Alexandra, Louise.

SleepForTheWeek · 18/04/2017 23:55

Sorry - obviously didn't explain myself thoroughly! It probably depends on what area you live in too. Nothing made up, spelt strangely or awkwardly (both DH and I have names that people always spell/pronounce wrong) or too out there. Don't want them to be 1 of 4 in a class with the same name though.

I like Marin - what's the origin of that?

DD's name has been mentioned up thread - so on the right lines!

I love Jean as a name!

EnjoyYourVegetables · 19/04/2017 00:08

If you like Callum, what about Conor, Cameron or Cormac?

BackforGood · 19/04/2017 00:09

By 'traditional, underused......but not really old fashioned' I'd think names such as

David
Mark
Peter
Simon
Stephen
Richard

Jane
Catherine {although there are several ways to spell that)
Anne
Elizabeth
Karen
Susan / Suzanne
Patricia
Denise

is that in the right ball park ?

EnjoyYourVegetables · 19/04/2017 00:12

Ross, Finlay, Lewis, Angus, Kyle, Scott.

Astro55 · 19/04/2017 00:12

Marin is a minor saint meaning 'the sea' a male form of Maria

SleepForTheWeek · 19/04/2017 00:14

I find some of those names quite boring (sorry!). I think if misused the word 'traditional' - although what I mean is a legit name that's been around for some time but aren't too popular.

Nothing is really standing out for me - I'm almost ready to let my 2 year chose Wink

We also liked Innes and Struan for a boy but have slowly gone off them...

EnjoyYourVegetables · 19/04/2017 00:15

There is a definite Scots leaning there!

EnjoyYourVegetables · 19/04/2017 00:16

Gregor?

EnjoyYourVegetables · 19/04/2017 00:16

Syrian is a lovely name imo.

Magnus?
