Damn autocorrect. QUINNY.

SuperBeagle · 18/04/2017 09:02

Quinn is traditionally a boy's name (as a pet form of Quinton) and a couple of recent TV programmes might prove less enduring about which sex usually receives the name than the long-standing use in U.K.

Well Daria was around in the 90s, so not exactly "recent", and it's statistically used more for girls than boys...

Meredith is traditionally a boy's name and surname, but most people aren't going to name their son Meredith.

thebakerwithboobs · 18/04/2017 09:56

I think the Quim thing is certainly regional, but it's certainly a consideration-it's the same as why I wouldn't call a girl Pippa. Means nothing in the UK, but if you pop over to, say, Italy....

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 18/04/2017 09:57

I like it! :)

thisagain · 18/04/2017 10:05

We've just called our new rabbit Quinn! He is male and it's short for Tarquin Balthazar - my kids named him! To be honest, for a male the name has grown on me. I don't really like it for a girl.

Nonameyet1 · 18/04/2017 10:22

I love it and really wanted it for my second little lady but I was talked out of it!

Queensparkles · 18/04/2017 10:36

No never seen scandal, I remember the girl in glee being called Quinn when I watched that years ago but then I just came across it on a baby name list and I can't get it out of my head! OH hates it though Confused as for quim I've genuinely never heard that, defo not a word that's used in Scotland anyway! Thanks all Grin

I really like it isn't to out there and daft use it, think the last time i heard quim was when i watched the film rob roy and that is set in the 17bloody00s

NameyMcNamerson83 · 18/04/2017 13:55

I actually really like it, makes me think of glee straight away though! That may say more about me than anything though lol

pepperpot99 · 18/04/2017 16:46

Well if you want to call your daughter a name meaning vagina then go ahead. Let's hope she doesn't ever study any Chaucer at school Hmm.
You could call her something else, couldn't you? There's a thought.

MrsJayy · 18/04/2017 17:29

It does not mean vagina don't be so medieval ridiculous

ShowOfHands · 18/04/2017 17:32

I do think "mewling quim" first I'm afraid. Of course I'd never say it, but I think it.

MrsJayy · 18/04/2017 17:36

What are the chances of little Quinns peers sniggering in the playground mewlingquim

Queensparkles · 18/04/2017 18:07

What's mewlingquim? I'm actually finding this so funny this is defo not a word used in Scotland full stop and certainly not one children would be aware of Blush I've even asked 'older' colleagues and they haven't heard of it either lol

I like it and I've never heard of it being used for your bits!

lazydog · 18/04/2017 19:13

I hate it, but mainly because I make the association with a really horrible boy, with that name, in my younger son's class. I actually never realised it could be a girl's name - I've only ever heard it used for boys.

TheDowagerCuntess · 18/04/2017 19:18

It doesn't mean vagina, quim means vagina.

One of DD's friends who's 6 is called Quinn.

It's not to my taste, but it's not terrible.

I'd also say it's more of a girls' name now. As soon as girls start appropriating names, boys tend to rush to stop using them. Well, the parents of girls/boys...

greeeen · 18/04/2017 19:36

Love it, it's on my name list. Never heard of quim.

YogaAndRum · 18/04/2017 19:44

I like it.

I'd never heard of 'Quim' until I went to uni to study literature. I don't think it's a word in regular modern usage so i'd forget about that.

To me, Quinn sounds light and clean

RightOnTheEdge · 18/04/2017 19:53

There are two Quinns in my DCs school. One a boy and one a girl.

I really like it.
I have never heard of quim

Queensparkles · 18/04/2017 20:26

Thanks everyone Smile

maitaimojito · 18/04/2017 20:49

I quite like it. I first came across it on One Tree Hill.

I've never heard of quim and I doubt any of your child's peers will have.

DevelopingDetritus · 18/04/2017 21:37

I like it for a boy though. First thing I thought of was The Mighty Quinn, that's from years ago though.

I suppose you know everything about everything SuburbanRhonda condescending much.

flibberdy · 18/04/2017 21:53

I love it, and also thought of Scandal. Good luck convincing DP Grin

Queensparkles · 18/04/2017 22:34

DP will just need to do what he's told haha I'm glad I'm not the only person who hadn't heard of quim, I even had to google 'chaucer' so as you all can tell I didn't study literature at uni, damn the secrets out Blush LOL
