Names that made you think wtf?

My friends Mum recently had a baby and couldn't think of a middle name for her newborn girl. The Mum has a teenage sister, so whilst walking to the birth registration place, she let her pick the middle name just so her daughter had one. Turned out to be a normal name but what a way to pick a name.

There was a boy in my year who's middle name(s) were Ryan Giggs.

Anyone else come across strange reasons/funny names that made you wonder why the parents would want to put there child through it? Grin

Dutch politician Tiny Cox.

Random Facebook search at work one day with a bored colleague brought up Fanny Pong.

dalmatianmad There was a Jenna Taylor in my year at school - maybe she is now your colleague. how many can there be?!

I once did work experience in a primary school, and the 3 EYFS teachers were called Miss Gay, Miss Large, and Mrs Mann. I wasn't surprised they'd all opted to work in primary rather than secondary schools...

Hannah Montana McDonagh. Also a family who when they had a baby girl and the hospital wrote female surname they decided that's what they would call her and pronounced it Fa-ma-lay

lisalisa · 20/04/2017 00:18

My primary school teacher was Mrs Topless. I kid you not . But we never thought it was funny until many years laterv

katiegoestoaldi · 20/04/2017 00:20

I know someone who named her children after an Italian designer and a high street fashion store

ThighBrows · 20/04/2017 00:24

teaandkitkat I went to school with a Kylie Wylie too! And a Donna McDonagh. Did your school also have a ridiculous name? Wonder if it was the same one.

I had a teacher at secondary school who's name was Miss Carajuana. My extremely lovely naive drug oblivious friend thought it was funny because it 'sounded like Caravan' Hmm

steppemum · 20/04/2017 10:28

I once had a friend whose surname was Lightbottom. Which was midly amausing, but the thing was, my friend was very large, the opposite of 'light' which did make it slightly cringy.

Someone told me their baby girl shortlist yesterday and it included Audreylonia.

Catherinebee85 · 20/04/2017 14:23

My DP announced a couple of days ago that he'd like to call our baby girl Arcadia.

His mum likes it too.

I thought I knew him well after 4 years together!

Hushabyelullaby · 20/04/2017 14:40

Outing my old school here, but my English teacher was called Mr Penney. He met a girl in his early twenties and was told her name was Penny. He used the line 'I could never marry you, you'd be Penny Penney'. In actual fact they did marry, and she did change her surname. When he taught me they had been married for over 30 years.

LiviaBC · 20/04/2017 14:47

Some of these are crazy! Actually make that most of them, I met abbey Horace last week, he was centuries too young for his name

lizzieoak · 20/04/2017 15:23

I'm not saying I quite like the name Arcadia, but it is a Greek baby name which means pastoral simplicity. It makes me think of 18th century ladies wandering Capability Brown landscapes.

teaandakitkat · 20/04/2017 17:25

thighbrows no, I went to a school in the north east of Scotland with a perfectly boring name. But surely there can't be two Kylie Wylies in the world? That would be weird.

beargrass · 20/04/2017 17:42

Arcadia makes me think of Topshop

PandoraMole · 20/04/2017 18:08

When I went to college was on a course with a girl whose family name was Titt, but her parents had decided to change it when the had kids.

Ironically I had also changed my surname at 16...it was originally Cock Grin!

The most Shock naming story I've cone across was when I was working at a nursery. One of the kids was named after her Dad's ex girlfriend. Would have been ok if it was a regular name but it was very distinctive (ie sounded like it was made up).

AtlantaGinandTonic · 20/04/2017 18:11

After I got over the shock of what he did, I did Hmm at the name Steve Stephens. Assuming that's the name is parents gave him, just... what?

Dixiestamp · 20/04/2017 18:15

I remember chatting to someone after she had just had a baby boy. She said his name was Bear, and it was't until later on that i remembered that his older brother was called Teddy! Also, my DM says that when I was born there was a baby girl born at the same time whose name was Tanya Haas!

countingpigs · 20/04/2017 18:17

I had a classmate who had a normal first middle name then "Aston Villa" as his second and third Grin

CuppaTeaTeddy · 20/04/2017 18:19

@countingpigs haha that's like the boy I know with Ryan Giggs as the middle names 😂

Le-ah, which is pronounced Le Dash Ah Hmm!!

MrsMeeseeks · 20/04/2017 18:40

🙄

flapjackfairy · 20/04/2017 18:43

I have put this before but worth repeating.
My friend knew a lady called Rhoda. She got engaged to a Mr Dick!
They wisely both took her name !!
