Names that made you think wtf?

My friends Mum recently had a baby and couldn't think of a middle name for her newborn girl. The Mum has a teenage sister, so whilst walking to the birth registration place, she let her pick the middle name just so her daughter had one. Turned out to be a normal name but what a way to pick a name.

There was a boy in my year who's middle name(s) were Ryan Giggs.

Anyone else come across strange reasons/funny names that made you wonder why the parents would want to put there child through it? Grin

It does sound funny now, but (at least in North America) Dick used to be a perfectly normal shortening of Richard. And Randy (which faintly amuses me as I've lived in the U.K.) is just a name here and not a descriptive (though not much used in the past 30 years).

In a job I used to have I had an elderly couple where the woman's maiden name was Allbody and the husband's surname was Butt.

I did two weeks work experience at a recruitment agency, one of the things I had to do was take details from new clients for the database - my very 1st one was a lady called Dickshitter. I'm trying so hard to be professional but I'm only 14 and i remeber thinking i must have misheard her so there is this awkard silence and all I could think to say was "and how is that spelt?" Her response (totally straight faced) "as it sounds" I still have think i still have scars on the insides of my cheeks from biting down to keep from laughing!

I met a Kwyntyn on Sunday.

MrsMeeseeks · 18/04/2017 18:57

And a woman in a group I'm in on Facebook is thinking of calling her daughter Stryder.

rachyconks · 18/04/2017 19:54

@ni58 I would say so judging by your username! Smile small world!

I once saw a butcher's delivery van with the name Diaper Meats on the side. Presumably, Diaper is the surname of the company owner. But, really, they didn't think that one through, did they?

ToughItOut · 18/04/2017 20:11

There's a Star and a Pebbles at my dd school!

silkpyjamasallday · 18/04/2017 20:39

I knew a lady who on taking her husbands name after marriage was called Joy Rider. Surely you would keep your maiden name?!

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 18/04/2017 20:44

Bent Winkle - colleague of DH - is Dutch so maybe they didn't realise it's so hilarious there they do now
Wayne Kearn - went to secondary with him in the eighties so no excuse surely

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 18/04/2017 20:47

Also worked with Pony, Horse, Wolf and Bubbles, amongst others, in China where they seem to choose a word they like the sound of without checking it's meaning first.

beargrass · 18/04/2017 21:07

Worked with someone called Amber Bush. She should've divorced her parents

BadToTheBone · 18/04/2017 21:23

I forgot about an old friend who changed her name on marriage from Cox to Dick.

CPtart · 18/04/2017 21:27

DH worked with a Pearl Nicholas Grin

kingfisherblue33 · 18/04/2017 21:32

I shed a small tear of laughter at Mr Bumhole/B'yew-mol-é!

Reminds me of a teacher I had named Mrs Trebilcock, pronounced Truh-BILL-coe, apparently.

I've also heard of a Justin Syder

CuppaTeaTeddy · 18/04/2017 21:59

@Awwlookatmybabyspider Bing Ho - that's a good one haha.

All of these are too funny! 😂

@CaoNiMartacus Justin Syder? Surely not. This has got to be one of the best 😂 what was the parents thinking lmao!

@Talcott2007 your whole post is hilarious. I definitely wouldn't have been able to keep the laugh in. That's not even a half normal last name! 😂😂

Where I live Chinese names are completely normal - I've puzzled over the hilarity of Bing Ho & am wondering if it reminds people of bingo?

Some of the names I've had to say to myself in a variety of English accents before I see the joke Blush

lizzieoak · 18/04/2017 22:24

Ooh, no offence but I've mentally given Liverpudlian a go & it comes out as bingo. In Canadian it reads as two very separate words with no hard g said or inferred on bing.

Sorry! Lost in translation.

LauraMipsum · 18/04/2017 22:30

I knew a man called Blessing Salami. Not remarkable where he was born but sounds funny in the UK.

The only one I've really thought "wtf" was a woman whose son was called Braxton after she did antenatal classes and heard of Braxton Hicks. I get that Braxton is a real name of itself but she was quite clear that her son was named after contractions. WTF. Confused

Talcott2007 · 19/04/2017 07:35

@CuppaTeaTeddy - it wasn't her last name....

rattieofcarcassone · 19/04/2017 12:36

Coming back to this, My school had a teacher named Gordon Bennet, I'd never heard the phrase before so didn't understand why everybody found it hilarious when they were telling me about the school (I joined late). I had a Tommy Thompson in my science class too.

liadaintheirishpoetess · 19/04/2017 13:00

Dallas-Rae

Wafflenose · 19/04/2017 13:04
