I'm 32 weeks and I have always wanted to call my baby boy Charlie, but recently come across this name and like the uniqueness. I want people's honest opinion on the name.

Many thanks.

I prefer Charlie short for Charles

redheadbarmaid · 13/04/2017 22:05

I quite like it actually!

And shortens nicely to Charlie

BadToTheBone · 13/04/2017 22:08

City on South Carolina, lived there briefly, really nice place.

SloanePeterson · 13/04/2017 22:10

It's a dance. Don't do it

elQuintoConyo · 13/04/2017 22:12

I'd imagine a child called Charleston to grow up calling the midday meal luncheon and know how to do the Lambeth Walk.

How about Charleton (Heston)?

Redtartanshoes · 13/04/2017 22:14

No to charleston

Yes yes to Charlie

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2017 22:14

Just go for Charlie, it's much nicer.

I think Heston. Like it.

Sweets101 · 13/04/2017 22:17

My favourite dance!

purpleshortcake · 13/04/2017 22:17

When I read the OP I thought it was a girls name Blush

toffee1000 · 13/04/2017 22:18

It's a dance not a name.

SirNiallDementia · 13/04/2017 22:18

Charlie is great but Charleston is awful. It's like calling your kid waltz or rhumba.

Just call him Charlie if that's the name you like.

mummykemp1 · 13/04/2017 22:18

Thanks for all the comments, it really helps to hear people's thoughts when they hear a name.

It's a dance.

I think it might be a rather tiresome name to actually live with because if that.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 13/04/2017 22:23

Charlton is slightly better than Charleston. Does Charlie needs to be short for anything though? If you don't like Charles, just use Charlie.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 13/04/2017 22:38

I really like it

Shockers · 13/04/2017 22:43

I think it would be one of those names that was only revealed to his friends at the altar, on his wedding day. They would all turn to one another with amused surprise, because he will have only ever been known as Charlie.

SuperBeagle · 13/04/2017 22:57

Very snobby American, IMO. The kind of guy you might see on a show like Gossip Girl.

And then it reminds me of the Charleston shooting.

Newbiecat · 13/04/2017 22:59

Noooo, don't do it! Agree with the chavvy comment autumnrose

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 13/04/2017 23:05

I'd go with Charlton which is an actual name. Charlie Brooker is a Charlton. But actually Charleston isn't too bad - there's a long history of naming babies after cities.

AbernathysFringe · 14/04/2017 01:25

Charleston is a great city.
And a 1920s dance, so both quite cool connotations.
I quite like it actually.

3boys3dogshelp · 14/04/2017 01:29

I would think I had misheard you. Sorry it's just not a name to me. Not usually a fan of nicknames as full names but Charlie is lovely just as it is.
