Hello, thoughts on Wendy? We have a Betsy. We absolutely adore it. She's almost 6 weeks, so time is getting short. Thanks!

I like it

wizzler · 07/04/2017 21:03

I don't think you can be on mumsnet and have a DD Wendy.. you would flinch everytime you went on AIBU.

BattleaxeGalactica · 07/04/2017 21:07

Drippy Butterflies woman was Ria. Played by Wendy Craig.

Op, if you love it, go for it. Doesn't matter what the internet thinks.

Sophronia · 07/04/2017 22:22

I don't mind it. I know a Wendy in her late twenties.

wowfudge · 08/04/2017 09:19

How about Norah or Coral or something a bit different? I have an Auntie Wendy - she's anything but drippy!

squoosh · 08/04/2017 10:55

I'd discount the whole 'being Wendied' thing. 99.9999% of the population will never have heard of that.

Jojoanna · 08/04/2017 10:59

Love it cute name

kittybiscuits · 08/04/2017 10:59

I almost had a Betsy and I really like Wendy. Mumsnet is not the entire universe.

Orangepear · 08/04/2017 11:12

I know an extremely cool and clever teenage Wendy!

Foureyesarebetterthantwo · 08/04/2017 11:33

I was going to say 'Nora' as it goes very well with Betsy.

Do not call your children pretty identical names. I did and called them the wrong names all the time in a state of tired confusion.

Don't call your little one Wendy anyway it's just not that nice a name IMO. So many lovely ones out there.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 08/04/2017 12:05

I really don't like it. Fast food chain in America and to me the woman my ex cheated on me with and I remember thinking 'who has a name like Wendy at my age?'

Queensparkles · 08/04/2017 13:14

I like it, go for it! Smile

Biscuitsneeded · 08/04/2017 14:50

OP, I get why you like it. I actually like 30s/40s/baby boomer names too. I also love Betsy, but I think of that as more Edwardian. So I'd go for something like Sylvia, Daphne, Pearl, Sally, Cora, Helen (at the moment I am loving Helen!), or Jean.

fishfingerSarnies · 08/04/2017 15:18

I like it!

TomaytoTomahto · 08/04/2017 16:55

Not a fan, sorry. Every time I hear the name Wendy I just think of that fast food chain.

WaitrosePigeon · 08/04/2017 17:13

Hideous

Logolphin · 08/04/2017 20:27

Wendy House

April241 · 08/04/2017 20:41

I love Wendy, I know a few and they're amazing people. I also love Betsy, my OH calls me that!

Fuxfurforall · 08/04/2017 21:04

What a load of horrible comments about the name Wendy. I know a Wendy - she is strong, faithful and the best friend you could ever have.

maisyanddaisy · 08/04/2017 21:08

I think it's adorable.

ChocolateFuzz · 08/04/2017 21:10

I was going to say no, Wendy is for 80 year olds but you have a Betsy do clearly you don't mind

Chunkamatic · 08/04/2017 21:14

I really like it. Wasn't it a made up name for the Peter Pan stories.

Btw my kids name choices got pretty slaughtered when I asked on here and I still went with them! Go with what you love.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 08/04/2017 21:58

I don't think it's a very strong name. But I like strong names, you might not-if you love it use it!

Ojoj1974 · 08/04/2017 22:03

Sorry but Wendy is a big no from me.
If you like old fashioned names now turned cool how about-
Pearl
Iris
Betty
Lavender
Clemmie
Clarissa
Enid

squoosh · 08/04/2017 22:22

Poor old Wendy is coming in for quite the kicking. In 15 years time it will probably be really popular again.
