Hello, thoughts on Wendy? We have a Betsy. We absolutely adore it. She's almost 6 weeks, so time is getting short. Thanks!

How about Lucy or Katie?

guiltynetter · 07/04/2017 18:56

it's so old fashioned and i can't imagine it ever coming back! i work with a wendy in her 20's and i always think that it's a old fashioned name on her, never mind a baby!

autumnboys · 07/04/2017 19:00

It's my first name and I love it. It's unusual-ish but people can spell it. I find the mumsnet wendied thing irritating, but I've never come across it anywhere else. There's not many in my generation and I expect there will be fewer again in hers. Smile

MollyHuaCha · 07/04/2017 19:15

How about Wendolyn?

AmysTiara · 07/04/2017 19:19

No no no

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 19:28

Gewndolyn? Nn Gewn or Wendy?

I like the name. But I think Wendy and Betsy are very "same-y"...

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 19:29

*Gewn....

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 19:29

Gwen...

Well, my mobile doesn't seem to like "Gwen". It keeps changing it to Gewn... Confused

Aderyn2016 · 07/04/2017 19:32

One of the ugliest names ever - don't do it OP.

Logolphin · 07/04/2017 19:45

Wasn't the feeble character in Butterflies called Wendy?

SavoyCabbage · 07/04/2017 19:49

I'm fairly sure that the whole 'wendied' hoo-haa originated on MN after a woman was pushed out of her own friendship group and the OP named the pusher after Wendy in the Blubber book by Judy Blume. So it's not exactly commonplace.

PunkAssMoFo · 07/04/2017 19:59

If you're looking for a hipster name, there are far better. Some names fall out of use for a reason.

RooKangaroo · 07/04/2017 20:01

It's fine, go for it.

And the more I think about it, the more I like it, actually.

madeleinecreek · 07/04/2017 20:06

I think it's lovely

KatherinaMinola · 07/04/2017 20:09

Ha ha - there is a thread called "My DD is being Wendied" just below this one Grin.

But personally I love the name - no-one except MNetters gets the Wendied reference.

BearHunting · 07/04/2017 20:14

Mumsnet has ruined Wendy as a name for me.

But objectively, it's okay as a name. Uncommon, but a name most people will have heard of, and not one that's particularly dated.

Lemondrop09 · 07/04/2017 20:28

I've never heard of being wendied and have no intention of googling it.

The reaction on here seems a bit strong. I think Wendy is a perfectly normal name so can't see why anyone would object to much to it. It's nice enough, if you love it, go for it.

THirdEeye · 07/04/2017 20:35

No. Sorry!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/04/2017 20:39

No, sorry OP.

I don't know what wendied is...?

ChippieFishieHorshie · 07/04/2017 20:44

But I do like the name :)!

Mooey89 · 07/04/2017 20:49

I have been too long on MN and so I thought this was a joke, I'm sorry.

The more I think about it though, it is growing on me!

I love older names though, Betsy is on my short list, as is Eliza, Cecelia, Delilah.

not even ttc yet!

smilingsarahb · 07/04/2017 20:59

My loveliest friend is a Wendy so it has positive associations for me. It might be nice to find something it could be short for. Lots of Welsh names end in wen

buttercup54321 · 07/04/2017 21:00

Most Wendys are over 50 I think so it wouldn't be common now. If you love it go for it. Your baby your choice
