A boy or a girl? What would you assume first?
Thanks!

I would assume they were friends with Bailey.

I don't think Rowan is so common that your dad would be referred to as 'girl-Rowan' to differentiate her from 'boy-Rowan' in the same class / group though.

MistressMerryWeather · 01/04/2017 20:30

This is one of my favourite names. Smile

I think it's lovely for both.

Abetes · 01/04/2017 20:31

Girl

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 01/04/2017 20:33

I would assume it was a boy but I've recently met a little girl called Rowan. Works for both I think now Smile

smileygrapefruit · 01/04/2017 20:34

I know a male Rowan and a female Rowen...pronounced the same but I assumed (wrongly judging by this thread) that the -en was a female version of the name.

Asmoto · 01/04/2017 20:38

The names Rowan and Rowena have different origins. Rowan is the standard spelling for either sex.

maisyanddaisy · 01/04/2017 20:39

I'd also think it was pronounced with an 'oh' for a boy and an 'aow' for a girl. Lovely name, but if it was for a girl I think row (as in have a row)-an is much prettier.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 01/04/2017 20:51

Boy.

CerealShopper · 01/04/2017 21:01

I know one of each. Lovely name and suits both of them.

Juliecloud · 01/04/2017 21:07

I know a 40 year old woman and a 6 year old called Rowan (Roe-an).

I also know a 5 year old girl called Rowan (Row-an).

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 01/04/2017 21:09

It could be either (I know 4 Rowans - 2 male, 2 female). I prefer it as a girls name.

MistressMolecules · 01/04/2017 21:12

Boy is my assumption yet the only one I know is a girl.

hollyisalovelyname · 01/04/2017 21:23

Boy.

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2017 22:40

Boy, because I only know one & he's male.

GrumpySausage · 01/04/2017 22:46

I know one of each! But my head says girl.

LouKout · 01/04/2017 22:46

Either

user1483387154 · 01/04/2017 22:49

DragonNoodleCake · 01/04/2017 22:59

Girl - it's my friends DD1's name

LillyLollyLandy · 01/04/2017 22:59

Girl

emwithme · 01/04/2017 23:04

Girl. which reminds me, I haven't watched Wicker Man in ages

OwlOfBrown · 01/04/2017 23:09

Girl.

Both the Rowans I know are girls.

Joeybee · 01/04/2017 23:15

A boy, for sure.

ScarletSienna · 01/04/2017 23:19

I haven't met a female Rowan so that may cloud my opinion but I definitely see it as a boy's name with the female version being Rowena. Never thought of it as unisex. Dislike unisex names anyway!
