A boy or a girl? What would you assume first?
Thanks!

Boy

armpitz · 01/04/2017 09:24

I'd hope girl, as I really don't like it for a boy.

It just sounds feminine!

BeyondThePage · 01/04/2017 09:25

strange how I never even thought of Rowan Atkinson. He does not strike me as a "Rowan"...

NoParticularPattern · 01/04/2017 09:26

I know one of each so no assumptions made!

Rockaby · 01/04/2017 09:26

I know exactly what you mean beyond! Maybe because we know him better by his whole name / blackadder / mr bean?

Floggingmolly · 01/04/2017 09:27

Girl.

KarmaKit · 01/04/2017 09:27

As others have said, I know one of each so no assumptions made. It's a lovely name for either sex.

TempsPerdu · 01/04/2017 09:29

Wouldn't assume as I think it's genuinely unisex. Good name- like it for both, but particularly for a girl.

wonkylegs · 01/04/2017 09:31

Boy but only because it's my nephews name

MrsHughesCarson · 01/04/2017 09:31

Boy, i prefer Rowena for a girl.

Thurlow · 01/04/2017 09:32

Either. Its like Alex, I would expect either a boy or a girl.

KarmaKit · 01/04/2017 09:33

My best friend has a name which is far more commonly used for the opposite sex. EVERYONE assumes, to the point where companies change their title to the opposite sex and then are complete arseholes about changing it back, like it wasn't their fault in the first place!
I don't think that would be the case with Rowan though, it's one of the few truly unisex names IMO.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 01/04/2017 09:36

I would think boy then my next thought would be or could be girl. Same with Robin where I immediately think girl but then think it could be a boy.

CountFosco · 01/04/2017 09:40

It should be a boy but I wouldn't assume because so many people use it for girls.

bluefeathers · 01/04/2017 09:40

Boy

fairiedemon · 01/04/2017 09:42

I know two dogs named Rowan. One is a bitch the other, well, a dog. Also DB is called Rowan so I jump to boy.

originalbiglymavis · 01/04/2017 09:42

I just think of the song we learned at school (Scots will know the one).

Venchi · 01/04/2017 09:42

I think "probably boy" even though the first time i ever heard the name it was on a woman.

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 01/04/2017 09:43

Boy :)

Ulysses · 01/04/2017 09:44

There's an 9 year old boy called Rowan in my street and a 6 year old girl in DDs class so either or though I do think it's quite feminine. A bit like Robin I suppose.

Frazzled2207 · 01/04/2017 09:44

Either but I prefer it for a boy.
Ds2 was nearly a Rowan, actually tentatively was Rowan for a short time. A few people said "oh, like Mr Bean"? when I mentioned it though, and I'm sad to say that put me right off. That would be an issue with (older) parents tho, not for the actual kid.

Littlepond · 01/04/2017 09:44

I would always have assumed girl until my friend named her son Rowan so now it makes me think boy! I think it is one of the very few actual unisex names out there!

TanteJeanne · 01/04/2017 09:46

I know of 2 boys and one girl

Ulysses · 01/04/2017 09:46

I think the boy pronounces like Ro-an while the girls is Row as in brow. I think it's a really lovely name either way.

LynetteScavo · 01/04/2017 09:46

Boy

But I prefer it as a girls name.
