Beautiful and I'm adding it to my list as a serious contender!!

Mrsknackered · 26/03/2017 21:50

Love it. Really don't like Iseult!

dimdommilpot · 26/03/2017 23:08

I have baby name regret about not calling DD2 this 3 years ago. I only recently discovered the name though! I love it.

NataliaOsipova · 26/03/2017 23:10

Instantly makes me think of the Wagner opera. In the very funny Rumpole of the Bailey books, Rumpole's rather pretentious colleague called his twins Tristan and Isolde (after the opera), so it always has a slight ring of that about it for me.

Sunshineandlaughter · 26/03/2017 23:19

I'm sorry I don't know how to pronounce it?

Sunshineandlaughter · 26/03/2017 23:29

Ah just looked it up - I think I prefer Isolda but both names lovely

CakeRattleandRoll · 27/03/2017 00:56

Really like it.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'd be tempted to reply "you sold a what?" Every time I heard it.

This one isn't unusual in a good way for me.

airedailleurs · 29/03/2017 09:07

nice...also really like 'Isotta' the Italian version

Fattycowagain · 29/03/2017 11:35

passportissues, it is pronounced here as ee-sold-uh, not i-sold.

I know of one. You'll get people pronouncing it many different ways if you spell it Isolde. Some pronounce the 'e' some don't, some stress different parts of the name. If you spell it Isolda you eliminate any doubt (that's if you want the 'a' sound on the end).
It's an English/Frech name from the original French 'Iseult', which itself is a lovely name.
If your taking it from the German Language Opera it would be ponounced 'Isolda'.

Fattycowagain · 29/03/2017 15:03

If we would spell it Isolda, people would pronounce the a rather obviously over here, so we prefer the e ending.

May I ask where you live?
Because to me personally Isolde and Isolda are quite different (my first language is German).

ee-soll-duh. (Isolda)
ee-soll-de (the de a bit like the e in egg...not really, But it's closer to the "egg e" than anything else, I think).

Whereas Isold... Idk, Wouldn't Ysolt be more obvious for the pronounciation you seem to want? I may be wrong, probably depends on where you live...

Fattycowagain · 29/03/2017 15:30

Clary, I think our pronunciation is the same, as we are in the Netherlands.

OP posts:
herethereandeverywhere · 29/03/2017 15:33

I thought it was pronounced I-sold-uh.

Well at least you now know you and said child will need to do some explaining of pronunciation of the name to many English speakers.

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 29/03/2017 15:59

fatty

Oh, ok. :)

I personally prefer Isolda. It's one of our top4 girl's names (it's currently number 3).

But I think Isolde (also pronounced Ee-sold) is also really pretty.

Although I do wonder, is Ee-sold the English pronunciation or is it just the one you prefer?

Fattycowagain · 29/03/2017 16:26

The Dutch is ee-sol-duh. Isolda would be ee-sol-dah (as in Sarah, with a very pronounced ah bit), which I don't like.

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe · 29/03/2017 16:28

Yseult isn't an option, I assume?

Well, Isolde (pronounced Isold) is also really nice :)

Mumzypopz · 29/03/2017 18:20

Hate it sorry. It sounds like a soldering iron to me.

lottielonsdale · 29/03/2017 18:33

Isolde isn't pronounced I sold although everyone does

buttercup54321 · 29/03/2017 20:19

Very pretty
