This is the name we are going to name our baby boy (due in 6 days!) but I suppose opinions would be nice. I do have another thread but that's for future boys names :)

Thanks :)

Sorry, but I don't like it at all. I think it's a bit ponsey and he will spend his whole life telling people how to spell it.

AnythingNotEverything · 24/03/2017 18:51

I'm not keen. I'm all for unusual names (I have 2 DDs who share their names with around 20 babies born the same year as them) but I don't like names that sound made up. Sorry.

AnythingNotEverything · 24/03/2017 18:53

Just seen your other thread. I see it's a genuine Irish name. Sorry. Still not keen.

Bitchfromhell · 24/03/2017 18:55

I think it's lovely. Are you Welsh? It sounds Celtic.

Mutella · 24/03/2017 18:55

Awful. Looks like a half-hearted attempt to anglicise an Irish name.

booellesmum · 24/03/2017 18:57

Actually really like it.
I spend my life telling people how to spell my name which is really common but just has different versions - so wouldn't take that into account.

Mutella · 24/03/2017 18:58

There is an Irish name that means thin, and it is a bit like this but not quite. Something looks missing in Caelan. Maybe a d and an h. lol. Sounds like I'm having a laugh to mock but I'm not, it looks to 'light' on consonants to my eye.

Mumzypopz · 24/03/2017 19:07

I can imagine teachers rolling their eyes in a few years time.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 24/03/2017 19:15

I like it.

Pencilvester · 24/03/2017 19:16

A lovely Irish name.

user1490294831 · 24/03/2017 19:17

It's no different to any other anglicised Irish name? For example: Aidan.

I like it OP :)

Why will teachers roll their eyes?

Gaelach · 24/03/2017 19:21

How are you pronouncing it? Kale-in or Keel-in? Spelling will differ for pronunciation.

Whatslovegottodo · 24/03/2017 19:23

I like it a lot.
But be aware with both cay-len and -shay-len being acceptable pronunciations you may get errors.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 24/03/2017 19:24

I love the name Caolan, it's a strong Irish name Grin

MiniMaxi · 24/03/2017 19:25

I like it! My friend has a son called Caelan and it was on our list (DH has Irish heritage)

Namehunting001 · 24/03/2017 19:29

I like it a lot! Gorgeous name! Lovely sound to it - very graceful and yet masculine. Good luck with the birth :)

Oblomov17 · 24/03/2017 19:35

I thought it was Welsh. Ds has one in his class.

DreamingofBrie · 24/03/2017 19:39

I used to teach one and he was a superstar!

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 24/03/2017 19:47

First time I've heard this name, I don't know its heritage but I'd pronounce it Kaylan but as it looks Irish I'm not sure that's right.

If it bothers you, it may not, some people will assume it's a yoonique spelling of Kaylan.

florascotianew · 24/03/2017 21:21

This is absolutely not a criticism, but since the name comes from the Gaelic 'caol' which means 'narrow' or 'slender', I've usually only seen it spelled Caolan, with a fada over the second a . Either that, or completely anglicised to Keelan.
Is there a special reason for your chosen spelling? There may well be, I don't know.
All good wishes, anyway!

reuset · 24/03/2017 21:26

Have you donned your tin foil hat, OP Grin This isn't going to be a popular one.

I don't like it, or the spelling. Not my taste.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/03/2017 21:31

I know a Caelan. In his case it's pronounced Kaylan.

I'm not a fan TBH.

celtiethree · 24/03/2017 21:54

I really like it, I'm in Scotland and have seen that spelling.

squoosh · 24/03/2017 22:53

I know a couple of women called Caoileann (pr Keelin) and a male Keelin.

Firsttimemama2017 · 24/03/2017 22:57

I'm sorry but I hate it... sounds made up to me!
