annandale btw, I didn't mean to imply that me liking Japanese food meant that I had a connection to Japan. I meant that seeing that Japanese food is my only ... that I have no connection to that culture...

Shoot, yes. I have foot in mouth disease.

Anyhow, I wouldn't tell anybody else not to use a name for that reason either...

id be more worried they'd get called Vagina!

there is a child singer called Amarachi which is awesome. I think its African?

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 22:18

I know what you mean, incidentally I really love Japanese names (and am a huge anime fan) but I would feel wrong using one. Shame as DD has been desperate for a little brother called Takumi :o

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/03/2017 01:41

I love Luna, but. I can't get past Tic.

Cellardoor23 · 27/03/2017 14:09

I like the the name Indie for a boy. My DP referred to my bump as Indie, no idea why. We don't even use it as a nickname, even though it could make sense with the name my DS has now.

Also like (if I was brave enough)

Asa
Asher
Xavier
Sergio
Vincent

My DP has said a big fat no to all of these anyway!

CakeRattleandRoll · 27/03/2017 16:20

Callista
Odette
Tirion
Xanthe
Elspeth
Agnes
Nimue
Saoirse

Jonty
Peregrine
Tristram
Aldous
Tycho
Erasmus
Taliesin
Osian

Cake

Erasmus is awesome!

I feel like I see this so often on this board. I wonder if many men are just less adventurous in the naming departement or whether it's pregnancy hormones making some of us (me...) like some outrageous names? Actually, I even like them when I'm not pregnant. So, yeah... Oops ;)

I'm a sucker for French names:

Elodie
Genevieve
Vivienne
Claudette (though this means lame!)
Agathe
Coralie
Jolie

Etc

husband has a thick, cockney-esque accent and can't pronounce anything vaguely French. le sigh

glitterglitters · 28/03/2017 12:17

Oh and I ADORE Xanthe, Calista, Athena, Minerva. Anything Grecian goddess sounding but when I got dh to say Xanthe it came out as Zanfffeee. So no. Lol

OnNaturesCourse · 28/03/2017 13:13

I love Marlena (Mar lay Nah)

I quite like the name Ottilie for a girl and I also like the name August.

Cagliostro · 29/03/2017 10:51

I'm happy as I mentioned the name Astrid to DH (far too early really as only just got BFP on the weekend) and he really likes it :o :o probably as a middle name though.

MaroonPencil · 29/03/2017 10:57

Malachi and Loveday are brilliant, they sound like the hero and heroine of a Cornish tale of romance and derring-do.

I love the name Linnet, but it doesn't sound brilliant in an Essex accent. I didn't have any girls anyway so I didn't have to make that decision! I also love Patrick but it didn't go with our surname at all. Ans I love Sorensen, because of the character in The Changeover novel, but it just would have been a bit too Scandi I think (although the character is from New Zealand).

1horatio · 29/03/2017 22:19

Cagliostro

Astrid is lovely :)! I also like Ingrid.

My guilty pleasure names are Ray or Rae, Estella, Blossom.
One of my favourite names is Robin or Robyn- gutted we never got to use it.

Hazandduck · 01/04/2017 15:12

Love this thread! As someone else said, Wolfgang is a brilliant guilty pleasure name! Little baby Wolf would be so cute.

Me and OH haven't had a baby yet but have been TTC and have had our names picked for years, with middle names, Matilda Alice and Hugo Leonard.

I love the name Leonard but people always react negatively, it was my beloved Grandad's name and it does hurt when people say "he'd get bullied!" I always think people that say that must have a streak of a bully in them to even think that way...

I also love Belle, Rex, Woody, Clementine, Birdie, Dodie, Coco, Octavia, and recently heard Matisse for a little girl (saw the daughter of an artist I follow on Instagram was named Matisse and thought it was so perfect!) and obviously as a huge fan of fauvism it would be wonderful but not sure OH would go for it...his heart is set on Matilda! All my friends think I'm a bit arty farty and will go for something a bit out there, so sometimes I'm tempted to go for a completely normal, regular name just to shock everyone lol!

Norky1975 · 01/04/2017 15:17

I wanted Rainbow or Violet for DD.
We settled on Cleo

Hazandduck · 01/04/2017 16:43

Norky Cleo is lovely! If I called a girl Clementine I would abbreviate it to Cleo, just like it a lot more than Clem as a nickname :)

PegLegAntoine · 01/04/2017 17:19

I just remembered a name I saw on MN (had never heard of it before) a while ago, and I think it's beautiful for a girl - Emrys

1horatio · 01/04/2017 18:07

I really like the name Cleo :)

It does reminds me of h2o, which was my little sister's favourite TV show... If I remember correctly she was a pretty cool character :) (And of course also of Cleopatra...)

Wolfgang is pretty awesome, I agree. I'm wondering whether I should put it on our list...? But it is very Mozart and very Goethe, which would be a lot to live up to...

I really like Wolfram.

jemima Blossom is really cute :)!! I personally love the name Robin.

peg

Emrys... is that an other of the Merlin character?

I agree, it's a really lovely name! Oh wow.

PegLegAntoine · 01/04/2017 18:17

I think it may be, I've never watched Merlin but I have a feeling I mentioned it to someone IRL when I first read it and she said ooooh like Merlin :o it's so pretty though so the association wouldn't bother me really. And it's unusual without being tooooo out there so I think it might be a winner (not that I've told DH this, and it's too early to be discussing names really - no scan yet - but I can't help it!) along with two other front runners, Astrid and Rowan. Luckily baby would need two middle names like our other DCs have.

Boys' names OTOH... argh!

1horatio · 01/04/2017 18:21

I've never watched merlin either ;)

I don't think the association is bad (?) either.

I really like boy's names, tbh.

Idk, I think in girl's names there's this line between beautiful and too frilly. Between feminine and too dainty. An issue I personally don't have with boy's names, tbh...

Or did they do something awful with Merlin in the TV show? Did they make him the bad guy...?
