Mine are anything flowery for a girl e.g. Posey, Poppy, Lily etc as well as the old woman names such as Mable and Dorothy
For boys I hate the Aidan, Hayden, Caden thing at the moment and overly posh sounding names such as Finius and Montague.

Oooh I hate xxxxx, no offence to anyone who's called their baby xxxxx, obvs

No, no offence taken at all Hmm

SwirlingCockatoo · 23/03/2017 14:13

I dislike Vanessa, always have. Simon too.

Don't think I will offend too many parents with those.

1horatio · 23/03/2017 14:13

I think a thread like this is quite a good idea (inspiration for people looking for names etc...)

But I also believe people should stick to mentioning their favourites.

Because anything else may become somewhat ugly, I agree...

joannegrady90 · 23/03/2017 14:14

I hate my own name if that counts 😂

EdmundCleverClogs · 23/03/2017 14:19

Some people really like being offended for the sake of it. My child has an unusual name, but I really don't care if someone said 'urgh I really don't like that'. Someone else might think it's awesome and inspirational. We're all entitled to our opinions.

As it goes, I think this 'old person name' trend is a bit much as well. I didn't think Stanley or Gertrude were considered nice names when they were of their time, but obviously that type of thing appeals to some. I'm sure the kids pull off their names fantastically.

Though I do still wonder about a thread on here, ages ago now. A relative was worried about her niece being called 'Charmaine'. Cue a huge split between posters who thought it was a nice old name, and those wondering if she had confused it with Chow Mein (I was in the latter).

EdmundCleverClogs · 23/03/2017 14:22

Oh, I also despise my own name. I half expected to see it on a list like this. Absolutely foolish choice on my parents part, not even a shortening or a middle name to get away from it.

RachelRosie · 23/03/2017 14:23

Oooops. I'm a week or so away from popping out either a Seth or a Maggie. Both old fashioned names.

If we all liked the same it would be a very boring world. Mind you, I wish me and DH agreed a bit more. Boys names were a doddle but the girls were tough!

Personally, I don't like Sinead or Savannah... no real reason, just don't like either names.

SunshineOutdoors · 23/03/2017 14:27

Ok, my last post before I stop, but if my dd came home from school saying another classmate had a silly name and she thought it was horrible and didn't like it, I'd be doing my best to teach her that it was mean to say things like that and we shouldn't hurt people's feelings. Yet it's ok for grown adults to do this. I just don't think it's very nice.

Apairofsparklingeyes · 23/03/2017 14:27

Op, I prefer flowery names for girls compared to names of places or drinks e.g. Chardonnay, India, Madison, vodka-tonic*

Boys names are better if they don't sound too pretentious unless you are seriously posh e.g. Tarquin, St John,

*not real as far as I know Smile

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 23/03/2017 14:50

I don't like Rachel or Rosie hideous.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 23/03/2017 14:54

I used to have a dog called Maggie as well and hate Maggie thatcher, Seth was some old bloke with a dodgy moustache in emmerdale.

CancellyMcChequeface · 23/03/2017 15:05

I don't like the Jayden/Hayden/Kayden names, or anything ending with -ee.

Sunshine the difference is that if I met someone with one of these names I wouldn't tease them about it or point out that I disliked it! But everyone has name preferences. If I saw people listing my own name in a 'worst names' thread online I wouldn't be offended; if they went out of their way to tell me in person that they hated it then I might be.

Awwlookatmybabyspider, what is so wrong with the name Freya? I'm just wondering

OP posts:
Illtellyouwhatswhat10 · 23/03/2017 15:43

Any name that is spelt with an 'i' at the end where the 'y' or 'e' has been omitted (however I don't mind the names themselves), eg:

Luci
Judi
Susi
Rosi
Jenni
Salli

Etc

Loyly · 23/03/2017 15:44

Harris. Like slang for arse in some dialects and Rolf Harris. Plus it's a place name/surname/brand name and I dislike those used as first names. It's the worst!

Greenteandchives · 23/03/2017 15:48

Amelia. Literally 'without limbs'.
Glenys,
Norma
Barry
My dh's name. Not telling you it.
Anything hyphenated with Mae

squoosh · 23/03/2017 15:52

Poor Barry Norman, you hate his first name and surname. Wink

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 23/03/2017 16:07

ShoutOutToMyEx · 23/03/2017 16:23

Oh good, my name has popped up twice.

There is no point to these threads, at all, other than to try and make people feel like shit.

1horatio · 23/03/2017 16:25

I just listed my favourite names. Seems nicer...

I think I may start a thread like that...? Or maybe there are already way too many.

ShoutOutToMyEx · 23/03/2017 16:26

Ultimate favourite name might be nice, horatio. And why you love it.

1horatio · 23/03/2017 16:27

shoutout

True. I think I'll start one... ;) (And I hope you're ok with me using the title you suggested)
