Fake names for nosey people?

Usanayme · 22/03/2017 01:09

Did you come up with a fake name to give to the nosey parkers who wouldn't stop asking about the name?

My cousin went with Dave and Damien

thinking of people named after where they were conceived (like Brooklyn, Chelsea and Paris Hilton), try "Bermondsey" "Milton Keynes Travelodge" or "Hearthrug"

reuset · 22/03/2017 13:35

You just need to be frank, OP. I couldn't be bothered with making up fake names, then the dull, predictable conversation that followed.

DappledThings · 22/03/2017 14:40

Alright maybe precious was a bit harsh. And lots of people don't decide until after the birth. But I just find the secrecy when people have decided a bit unnecessary.

I never announced it widely or anything but if anyone asked while I was pregnant I just said it was going to be Mxxxxx or Pxxxxxxx if boy or girl. Don't get why I would refuse to answer just to make a big reveal later.

triedandrusted · 22/03/2017 15:01

Spartacus.

glastogal · 22/03/2017 15:32

I wouldn't tell people just because I don't really want to hear their opinions on my chosen names. I don't want to be talked out of a name by my relatives, if they don't like it, they will get used to it!!

twinjocks · 22/03/2017 16:19

My MIL was overly nosy (and would have been judgmental) about names, so when pg with DD, we wound her up with corkers like "Beelzebub" and "Homer". She was half disbelieving/half believing us as we were totally straight-faced every time she asked. She eventually gave up asking and when DD was born and we rang her to say "it's a girl, her name is D", she was so relieved it wasn't one of the previous contenders that she loved the name! Win!

Crunchyside · 22/03/2017 16:32

I'm so fed up with people asking this! Even when I try to evade the question they interrogate me... "Is it an unusual name? is it an English name or a German name? Is it an American name? Is it like DS1's name?" etc...

People might think I'm being secretive for the hell of it but I just don't want to hear unwanted opinions on the name - it's hard enough choosing a name as it is, without relatives chipping in and saying "oh I knew someone's ex boyfriend with that name, he was an arrogant bloke!" or "Hmm I'm not keen, how about something traditional like George?" or "are you serious? it's a bit poncey isn't it?" etc etc...

My grandmother and my dad were both really negative about my son's name even after he was born and made rude remarks about it. Sad So I am pretty sure they wouldn't hold back with the thoughtless comments if I told them any names for my second baby while I'm still pregnant.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 22/03/2017 16:34

After having rude comments on our previous choices we decided to do a "big reveal" when our last was born (not sure what the difference is between that and not actually choosing a name till they're born TBH)

So we told everyone baby would Englebert or Ermintrude.

MalinHebrides · 22/03/2017 18:38

iklboo I love yours! Grin
Can't remember what we said for a boy but a girl was going to be Anathema. A friend suggested Santa Maria delle Nieve might make a good middle name.
We had boys: I still think rather fondly of my imaginary little Anathema.

MuncheysMummy · 22/03/2017 20:19

We had this with my bonkers mother in law so we had her convinced we were calling our DS Jesus (as in jeesus not the Spanish pronunciation of heyseus!) by month 4 and we didn't tell her the real name until he was born! She was so relieved it was hilarious Grin

GerdaLovesLili · 22/03/2017 20:31

Absalom Caractacus.

IsabelleSE19 · 22/03/2017 20:48

Trouble is with telling people the real one is then you get their unwanted opinion - it's not the desire to have a big reveal. When I told my auntie which names were on our shortlist for DS, she described what turned out to be his actual name as 'high-falutin'. (It really isn't.) When I mentioned it to her after he was born she claimed to have no memory of saying it, but I never forgot! Confused

GinAndTunic · 22/03/2017 22:23

This thread is a hoot. Thank you to all the creative namers!

UglyChristmasPullovers · 22/03/2017 23:11

My go-to fake names for any occasion are always Barnaby and Narcissa.

blackcherries · 22/03/2017 23:14

Shatonya or Tarquin

MeadowHay · 22/03/2017 23:26

Lochan Are you a friend of a relative of mine?! Because this happened in our family Grin!

pointstaken · 22/03/2017 23:38

We did, and used the names so much they are still a nickname nowadays. We didn't even use the right gender as we didn't want to tell people!

scoobydoo1971 · 23/03/2017 00:26

Stella for a girl, Jack Daniel for a boy...a nod to the circumstances of their conception.

flumpybear · 23/03/2017 01:45

For those saying why bother just tell people the truth - I found when I was truthful .... we're thinking about xyz then people always seemed to have an opinion and it put me off ... so didn't bother to tell people after that til they were born

reuset · 23/03/2017 01:49

The truth I would tell is that we were keeping the names to ourselves until after the baby was born.

Lochan · 23/03/2017 01:58

MeadowHay Quite possibly! Grin

dollarstodonuts · 23/03/2017 02:35

In my first trimester I dreamt, rather vividly, that I gave birth to a hippopotamus called Philomena Flump and thus the bump was christened. DH actually really started to like Philomena. I just couldn't have a girl called Phil!

Saracen · 23/03/2017 06:55

I fancy Frogmella or Spudulika, the names given to the children of Wayne and Waynetta Slob on The Fast Show.

thegreylady · 23/03/2017 08:09

Ruprecht

ChocChocPorridge · 23/03/2017 08:22

Both of ours did.

I don't know what it says about us that our family and friends believed us, I know that it only says good things about them that they only ever expressed gentle concern (if at all, although there were plenty of carefully neutral faces!) at the ridiculous names.
