Fake names for nosey people?

Did you come up with a fake name to give to the nosey parkers who wouldn't stop asking about the name?

My cousin went with Dave and Damien

Dave and Damien was intended to be an Only Fools and Horses theme but some people didn't realise and still try to call them that

I'm with you FairyBella. We just told people. I find it a bit precious when people have decided but it has to be a big reveal

FeralBeryl · 22/03/2017 08:35

It was never a 'reveal' in our case.
1st - hadn't quite decided
Others- going a bit alternative and didn't want the bollocky opinions beforehand. People tend to be a lot more forgiving of your choice once the name is actually attached to a lovely squishy baby.

Plus, all you have to do is read on here about people having their heart set on a particular name, only for it to be taken by someone close to them. Now that wouldn't bother me personally but I know it has really distressed others.

Each to their own

Weird thing to be judgmental about.

Ours were called Boris and Bongo in utero

No big reveal, just didn't decide until they were born so nothing to tell.

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 22/03/2017 11:51

Our ds was Oleg. .
Friends dd still calls him it and he is a toddler now!!
Ds 6 told everyone with such expression the name he was believed!!

PollyBanana · 22/03/2017 11:54

We "called" ours Rocky.
Quite a few people believed us as my husband loves Sylvester Stallone Sad

ZilphasHatpin · 22/03/2017 11:55

Donald

ZilphasHatpin · 22/03/2017 11:57

never tell your actual chosen name before baby is born. Otherwise you'll find yourself on AIBU in a months time squawking about how your sister's friend's dog 'stole' your name. Grin

iklboo · 22/03/2017 12:02

Isambard Agamemnon for a boy
Chlamydia Phosphorescence for a girl

iklboo · 22/03/2017 12:03

And we occasionally call out an imaginary name to DS in shops (he's in on it and comes up with his own suggestions too).

ItchyFoot · 22/03/2017 12:06

Friends of ours called their ds Noah but tole everyone it was pronounced Noir for a laugh Grin

OP - why don't you just use your fake Starbucks name, or your porn name?

DappledThings · 22/03/2017 12:17

For Starbucks I say my name is Americano or whatever else I've ordered.

SumAndSubstance · 22/03/2017 12:22

Wow, I have never heard telling people your baby's name after it's born described as either 'precious' or 'a big reveal'. In fact I've never had anybody tell me beforehand what they are going to call their baby - I just think that's normal. I also know a lot of people who didn't find out the baby's sex. Is that precious too?

crapfatbanana · 22/03/2017 12:23

Yep, Randy, Fanny and Gaylord.

Isabella70 · 22/03/2017 12:23

"For Starbucks I say my name is Americano or whatever else I've ordered."

You mean that the person who told me they were called Cinnamon Dolce Light Frappuccino was you?

hoddtastic · 22/03/2017 12:24

i had emily or oliver for both (neither on the list) made people swore them to secrecy (and also made them stop talking/asking) had a good few people 'sworn to secrecy' just pick pretty dull names and then people don't ask/comment.

OuchBollocks · 22/03/2017 12:25

I said I was going for Harry Potter themed names, so Severus Draco or Sirius for a boy, Bellatrix or Andromeda for a girl.

Usanayme · 22/03/2017 12:27

Isabella70 I don't have a Starbucks name... Unless "come here, Cuppa Please"

Nobody in my family has ever revealed the name prior to birth, it's tradition I guess?

OP posts:
crapfatbanana · 22/03/2017 12:27

We didn't tell, not to be precious, but because we weren't interested in hearing other people's opinions on our choices. If asked, we chucked a few random names out and moved the conversation on.

BusterGonad · 22/03/2017 12:30

I think I just told people the real name, so when they asked after the baby or I told them about it I referred to him by his name. He has a traditional name anyway so it's not like if someone steals it then it's going to be too annoying, but it's not super popular either like Jack, Josh or Archie.

BusterGonad · 22/03/2017 12:32

Also, luckily everyone claimed to like it and the grandparents loved it, tbh I think most people I told wouldn't be rude enough to say otherwise and if they had I'd have told them to f**k off! Grin

paxillin · 22/03/2017 12:46

Pick one of the current top 5, Sophia and Lucas or Ava and Jackson.

SheepyFun · 22/03/2017 13:08

Once we knew we were having a girl, we picked a silly name for the bump - think Gertrude. One friend who struggles with social cues told a good friend of mine that we were going to call the baby Gertrude (our actual silly name was ever so slightly more believable), so she started a hilarious conversation with me where she was trying to delicately suggest that there might be a bullying risk, and were we sure we wanted to go with the name. I did come clean and admit we weren't actually planning to call DD that!
