What do you guys think of this name for a boy?

OP posts:

blankpieceofpaper · 17/03/2017 21:54

Well, no, there isn't. But a new thread for every new name or group of names will get cluttered!

Jaguarana · 17/03/2017 21:55

OP obviously you can post as many threads as you like, but you have started a lot of threads today about random names and according to this one you aren't even pregnant.

Of course you don't have to be pregnant to post on here (I'm certainly not, I just like names) but it seems a bit odd, really.

MissJC · 17/03/2017 21:57

My dad is called Darren and even I think its a shit name. I also had a friend whose hamster was called Darren.

Ah god, he will get called Daz!

Little baby Daz!

Sorry OP, not for a beautiful newborn.

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 17/03/2017 22:34

There's not enough "nope" in the world for this.

Sophronia · 18/03/2017 02:21

Objectively it's an ok name, but it is quite dated.

KoalaDownUnder · 18/03/2017 02:31

Beyond horrible.

WaegukSaram · 18/03/2017 03:13

Beyond horrible.

Gosh, don't hold back, say what you really think! Grin

Sorry OP. It's a fairly hefty "no" from me.

highinthesky · 18/03/2017 03:20

No from me too.

Darragh is a reasonably well used name in Ireland though. I'm not sure it holds quite the same cachet as Darren in the UK.

Who am I kidding? I too seriously dislike Darren. (Raised in Essex in the 1980s).

Daisymclazy · 18/03/2017 04:23

My Dp is a Darren. Before meeting him my Dad was expecting him to be a dodgy bugger, solely on his name! And his short name is usually 'Dal' .

redfairy · 18/03/2017 04:34

Very 80s. I'm sure people are ready for more Darrens yet. Daryl's nice though.

redfairy · 18/03/2017 04:35

NOT sure

emilybrontescorset · 18/03/2017 06:56

The thing is o e day Darren will be popular and cool again.
I remember laughing when my ex colleague mentioned her husband Archie ( Arthur).
I also remember cringing when a college called her dd Emily. Both were regarded as ' horrible' names at the time.

One day we will be awash with Clair's Debbie's, Darren's et al.

PetalMettle · 18/03/2017 07:01

No. even though I loved xr3is and always wanted to go out with an owner.
Daniel isn't a million miles away

CPtart · 18/03/2017 07:41

There's a Darren (12) at DS school. A definite no.

PetalMettle · 18/03/2017 07:45

To clarify for any Daniel parents I meant it's not a million miles away in terms of sound but a lot nicer name!

CaliforniaHorcrux · 18/03/2017 08:19

Darren is my eldest son's middle name and I dunno why no one here likes it either, but then I think a lot of the popular names on this site are shite anyway so each to their own. Most names will date eventually

HeadlessGummyBears · 18/03/2017 09:01

What about Aron, Carson, Dylan or Warren? Kinda similar to Darren but not quite the same?

greeeen · 18/03/2017 10:38

For me it's so dated and just chavy. Daz/Dazza are awful nn. Really don't like it at all.

Mouthfulofquiz · 18/03/2017 10:46

I will go against the grain here and say that as a word, it has a lovely sound. One of the best people I know is called Darren so I like it!

NotYoda · 18/03/2017 10:47

It's dated. It has connotations. But of course in theory it's just a word and one day it might have a resurgence

I've recently heard of a few Erics and Rays. Not so dissimilar

And who would have thought the Old Lady names would ever become fashionable; but they did

Pencilvester · 18/03/2017 10:50

It's just so dated. This is what happens when a name becomes really trendy: it just sounds unbearably naff 20 years later. It's why I'm avoiding faddy names like Ethan and Evie: they are tomorrow's Darren!

gracefull · 18/03/2017 10:56

horrendous

Shosha1 · 18/03/2017 11:05

My brother is Daryn, and not a chav, or a criminal. In fact a retired policeman 😡

Maybe the change in spelling helps 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂😂😂

Nellooo · 18/03/2017 11:58

Say it with your best Australian accent and you'll get some idea...

It certainly has a particular connotation:

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 18/03/2017 12:21

Jesus Christ no.

I know several Darren's and they're all twats.
