Feelings on now feminine names for boys?

Previous post... Selwyn didn't seem too popular.

Now I'm thinking about names that lean a bit more feminine these days:

Vivian

Hilary

Kelly

Thoughts? Also any other suggestions of feminine names for boys?

Did you want a girl? Why set a boy up for a life time of ridicule? How cruel.

user1489577919 · 17/03/2017 00:05

LostInTheColonies - there's so many of these which I love but I'm also thinking... Yeah I wouldn't, and shouldn't.

Buttercup - yes, I'm truly a sadist

I went to school with boys called Lyn, Kelly, Ceri and Kim. I don't think anyone was particularly teased.

MsJuniper · 17/03/2017 00:16

Laurence (female name in France)

Bitchfromhell · 17/03/2017 00:17

I know a Kim and a Stacey. Both builders, never given it a thought until now. Neither seem the type to have been picked on at school but I'm not sure how I'd know.

Why have people suggested Francis and Gabriel?! They are only ever boys' names Confused

user1489577919 · 17/03/2017 00:30

NotRumpole - maybe because Francis and Frances sound the same?

Gabriel is quite soft, so it could be considered feminine, but it's definitely always been a boy's name. Except of course when they can't get a boy to dress up as an angel for the Nativity, then it's a girl's name

How selfish of you. Get a grip, seriously. There's hundreds of perfectly decent male names you can use. Stop trying to be so bloody 'trendy'.

user1489577919 · 17/03/2017 00:46

Lemonnaise - I don't even know how to reply to this, it's so dramatic. These are historically boys names, that's not a Trend Alert

I was at sixth form in the nineties with a super hot guy called Stacey. He did, however, have a surname than rendered him fairly masculine (without outing him!) No one batted an eyelid (lashes, maybe!)

Lemonnaise · 17/03/2017 00:50

Can you tell me why you want a feminine name for your boy? Is it just to be different and 'wacky'.?

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 17/03/2017 00:54

Er, my username is actually a guy's name in the USA. They seem to have a more relaxed attitude to 'gender-specific' names. It's not 'trendy' - it's been done for years.

user1489577919 · 17/03/2017 00:55

Lemonnaise - because I think male, feminine names sound nice and are attractive to me. I didn't go out looking for them specifically, but a lot of the names I like fall into this category, so I thought I'd ask for some ideas.

If I wanted to be wacky I'd name the baby Honeysuckle.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess - Stacey seems to be a popular one. I can't say it with my speech impediment though

(not the jingle bit, the 'jess' Grin)

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 17/03/2017 00:56

Call him Jess (watch Gilmore Girls - OMG, he's lush!)

user1489577919 · 17/03/2017 01:00

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess - I do love Gilmore Girls but I think my family would know where I got the name from Blush bit hard to own up to.

Rory?!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 17/03/2017 01:03

Ooh I went to school with a Jess too. He was a bit of a psycho. Slightly feminine boys' names were obviously very big in Wales in the 60s.

Nellooo · 17/03/2017 01:05

I know a nice guy called Jesse... Possible Jess alternative?

Buntysoven · 17/03/2017 01:06

Aubrey? Not very hippy tho! 😂

GinSwigmore · 17/03/2017 01:14

Hayden
Harley

ShoutOutToMyEx · 17/03/2017 01:18

I knew a male Skye.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 17/03/2017 01:22

shout I remember a male Skye.

ispymincepie · 17/03/2017 01:23

2 of my boys have names that while traditionally are boys names are more recently thought of as girls names. Other kids don't bat an eye at all. Occasionally someone might ask if my youngest is a boy or a girl as he's only little still. Don't want to out myself by saying them on here but they're both Slavic/Russian type names.
