I like it. I like the Irish connection.

Not keen at all, sorry sounds a bit bland to me

It was nearly the name we chose for DS1. We went for Adam instead. Glad we did because I now know several Aidans. It also has unfavourable 'connotations' to me now too.

I like it. Probably because it puts me in mind of Aidan Turner though.

I personally, in my head, wouldn't lump it with the likes of Kaiden, Jayden etc. either, because I know it's an actual name.

Sorry, don't like it.

Hi Zoup, just seen your post.
I don't really have a concrete reason. I don't like Adrian or Hayden either. It's just not my cup of tea.
But on the positive, I appear to be in a minority.

I really like it. Love the meaning too.

Interesting, all the Aiden's I know spell it "Aiden", not Aidan.

I really like it, it reminds me of the sex in the city character. It hints at a strong but gentle character to me.

I know an Aiden... lovely name .. his name is abbreviated to Aids...

I'm never sure why English people insist that Aidan is somehow 'made up' or 'yoonique'. It's the name of a 7th century saint.

Report
MiladyThesaurus · 12/03/2017 19:25

Possibly best not abbreviated to Aids though.

I know an Aidan shortened to Dan and another that goes by Aidy.

I like it

Makes me think of SATC and Poldark but I very much doubt his generation would make those connections!!

I'm not a fan, sorry. I just think it sounds a bit dull. It's up there with Tristan for me...just feels slightly incomplete.

Having said that, I DEFINITELY don't link it with Kayden, Jayden etc and now I realise there's an Irish link I actually like it better. I'm not Irish but the only Aidan I know has an Irish mother, so it makes sense now!

I love it. I know two Aidans and an Aiden and they are all quiet, intelligent, slightly bookish boys which fits with my idea of a C7th Saint.

Sorry don't like it. For me it's because I knew lots when I was a teen (30now) and they were all naughty, track suit and shaved head type boys. Can't get past that.

I like it but it's ridiculously popular here. I'm a teacher and there are three in my class and 2 more in the year (double stream school). I would never use it for this reason but obviously it might not be popular where you are!

I've taught an Aadyn and an Aidan and they've both been cheeky (in a good way!), curious and intelligent.

titsbumfannythelot · 12/03/2017 20:36

Love it. I would never think to spell it any other way than Aidan.
