I love...
-Delilah (nn Lilah)
-Pearl
-Betsy (given name Elizabeth)
-Valentine
-Emmeline (nn Emmy)

DH dislikes all except Emmeline, which he thinks is only ok. But he has no suggestions of his own.

You can be harsh Wink

I know an emmeline. She pronounces it emma-lean.

NuffSaidSam · 11/03/2017 23:24

Delilah (nn Lilah) - I like Lila, but not Delilah. The Tom Jones song is a classic...I think it will still be around as she grows up.

-Pearl - I don't like it. Not a fan of the granny chic.

-Betsy (given name Elizabeth) - Elizabeth is great and so versatile. Betsy is really cute for a baby and then she can be Elizabeth or Libby/Lizzy/Ellie/Eliza/Betty/Beth etc. if she wants when she's older.

-Valentine - is a boys name. Valentina for a girl, but Marvin JLS and Rochelle Saturday have just named their baby this.

-Emmeline (nn Emmy) - I like it and really like Emmy, but I think it could be about to become really popular. I'd never heard it on a baby until 3 years ago and now I know several.

SoulAccount · 11/03/2017 23:28

Whatever we think of these names, don't you need something that your DH likes?

Though, yes, he needs to do some suggesting.

Nancy
Harriet (Hattie)
Hepzibah (Epsy or Hepzi )
Miriam (mimi)
Bia

Would be on my list

Gemmy89 · 12/03/2017 02:12

I showed DH this thread and he felt justified in his dislike for Delilah because of the song! I still love it.

But he's even more keen on Emmeline now. And is coming round to Betsy (Elizabeth)...

I'm put off Valentine /a because of the celeb baby.

Juliette?

Emmeline and it's nicknames are lovely.

My dd has a middle name Mary too Smile

Also marianne?

Wineandchocolatebiscuits · 12/03/2017 02:26

Also Lila sounds a lot like Delilah and doesn't have the negative song associations. Lila Mary lovely!

ElizaDontlittle · 12/03/2017 03:01

I like Emmeline and Elizabeth, and tho I prefer most of the other diminutives - Betsy is cute for a baby.
Cecily is lovely too.

Cosmicglitterpug · 12/03/2017 07:24

I have an Elizabeth with one of her middle names being Pearl. And Delilah is on my list for future names. I met a 22 year old Delilah recently and it struck me what a great name it is.

Cosmicglitterpug · 12/03/2017 07:24

And I call my Elizabeth Effie.

Cosmicglitterpug · 12/03/2017 07:26

It's Marvin and Rochelle who have had a baby Valentina.

Twooter · 12/03/2017 07:33

Definitely Elizabeth/Betsy combination for me. Really dislike Pearl.

msrisotto · 12/03/2017 07:36

Emmaline is wonderful but apart from that, i'm mostly with your DH. Delilah = Tom Jones and the nickname Lilo. Pearl is granny-ish. Betsy doesn't do it for me and Valentine is a boys name.

Ecureuil · 12/03/2017 07:38

Emmeline Mary sounds great

NapQueen · 12/03/2017 07:39

Emmaline is nice but I prefer Evangeline (Eva/Angeline/Lina nn if needed)

BingThing · 12/03/2017 07:41

I like Pearl from your list and love Cecily and Stella from the suggestions. Also suggest Clara, Beatrice, Ada, Edie. My Mum is Mary and we thought about Mari or Marianna etc. My dp doesnt like vintage names much and deffo would go for anything like Delilah or Stella - the first thing he does is thinks about the bullies not whether he actually like the name! We've narrowed it to Thea and, surprisingly, Ada for dc3! Because Ada was my Grandma's name it makes him more keen. If your dh likes the idea of a family name then look through your family trees for ideas?

BingThing · 12/03/2017 07:43

Sorry I meant... would NOT go for Delilah or Stella!

iloveuihateu · 12/03/2017 07:48

Emmeline (Emmy) is one of my fave names!

I also love Elizabeth (Betsy).

How about Evelyn (Evie) and Emily which are similar to Emmeline?

Wineandchocolatebiscuits · 12/03/2017 07:50

And emelia (Emmy as nn too)

kittybiscuits · 12/03/2017 08:03

I love Pearl and Betsy Smile

NotFromAJedi · 12/03/2017 09:23

Delilah & Emmeline are lovely Smile

EssentialHummus · 12/03/2017 09:27

Valentine is a boys name.

Another vote for Lila from me. Not madly keen on your other names.

Wineandchocolatebiscuits · 12/03/2017 09:35

Eliza?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/03/2017 11:26

Emmeline is a lovely name.
Lilah is also nice, not keen on Delilah.

Gemmy89 · 12/03/2017 12:16

Sounds like Emmeline is rhe iverall favourite? Love that I have a new one to mull over - Cecily. DH quite likes it.

So now we've wittled down to:
-Emmeline
-Betsy (Elizabeth) (also love Bess and Effie as suggested!!)
-Cecily

I think they all go well together too, could be sisters Smile Emmy, Betsy, Cecily. I'm getting waaay ahead of myself here!
