Why does everyone hate the name Hayden? :-(

We really wanted to call our newborn Hayden, so did a little Google and found lots of negative posts... Why is this? :-(

Hayden is actually a very Upper class name. Or it was in previous generations. It's just been associated with Jayden etc but it's quite different.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 11/03/2017 19:03

If you like it DD, don't be afraid to use it. 😀
Do you have any other names on your list ?

mrsw14 · 11/03/2017 19:07

I love the name. I know it's unisex but definitely more of a girly one for me, I wouldn't name a boy Hayden

MaisyPops · 11/03/2017 19:08

behaviour/personality pattern you notice with a Harrison, if any? No reason just wondering
Only come across 3. One was a little bit wimpy but all 3 were lovely and well spoken with gorgeous manners.
Harrison is on my boy name short list for that reason.

My brother is a Hayden... we are very far from being chavs... he is older than the influx of jaydens and kaidens etc though so that may make a difference?

DonaldDuck15 · 11/03/2017 19:10

Noah would be our 2nd choice :-) there isn't really a list!

I don't associate Hayden with Jayden, but I still dislike it. It says Pinterest hipster to me.

I adore Aidan but I'm disturbed to see some lump even that in with Jayden et al because it rhymes! It's the Celtic sun god ffs!

reuset · 11/03/2017 19:16

Possibly because of similarity to Jayden, Brayden and the vogue for similar sounding names, transferred use of surname etc Obviously you'll also still get a core of people calling it 'chavvy'

To be fair it has been used as a first name, occasionally, for many many years (many think its use is modern and recent only). Not my cup of tea, just not classic enough, doesn't interest or appeal to me personally.

dementedma · 11/03/2017 19:16

Don't go on the Noah V Simon thread op!

JonSnowsWhore · 11/03/2017 19:16

Maisy stay away from mine then, wouldn't want to put you off 😂 clearly broke the mould when I made him 🙈 he is gorgeous though so he gets away with too much

reuset · 11/03/2017 19:19

Predominantly male. 368 boys in 2015 compared to 16 girls.

Pmurt · 11/03/2017 19:21

It's male. It's been male since biblical times. It's only female because some American actress was given a boy's name about 25 years ago.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 11/03/2017 19:22

Because some people on MN are a bit up themselves and think anything other than Olivier and James is a bit chavvy.

Toobloodytired · 11/03/2017 19:25

My young brother is called Caydan, I do not see it as "Chavy".

Possibly because he doesn't come from a "council" family??

He's a very nice, kind loving boy.

Each to their own, people think what I want to call my son is chavy, pretty sure that fact it's in the bible, it's far from! Hmm

reuset · 11/03/2017 19:32

Because some people on MN are a bit up themselves and think anything other than Olivier and James is a bit chavvy.

People who only like Oliver and James type names don't use the word 'chavvy' Wink

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 11/03/2017 19:32

Scarred forever for me by association with Star Wars episodes 2 and 3.

Sistafromanuthamista · 11/03/2017 19:52

Unfortunately it is lumped in with the 'aiden' sounding names and the reputation they have.

I like it, the only Hayden I know is a baby in a very twee Boden, white company cashmere sock wearing, jo malone candle type family. (I prefer Haydn spelling)

mnbvcxzl · 11/03/2017 19:58

I agree that Hayden and Aiden get lumped in though I've only known wrongun Haydens.

But Kayden and Jayden are simply awful. Everyone knows they are frowned upon. I really don't understand why anyone uses these names with such such obvious prejudices, same with Tarquin and Arabella though.

GreyStars · 11/03/2017 20:00

I like it as a boys name, as a girls name not so much.

As little boy called Hayden well I imagine him in cashmere jumpers, a little girl called Hayden I imagine them in knockoff Burberry. I strongly dislike the C word and I don't mean the sweary one, although do not like that much either

Hedley someone else suggested sounds a nice name to me too.

Izzyathome · 11/03/2017 20:05

I think it's a nice name. I think it sounds cool / chic. I've never heard anyone dislike it tbh. (other than some on MN baby names board).

Lofari · 11/03/2017 20:07

I have a nephew Hayden and he isn't chavvy at all.
I think Hayden Noah sounds lovely op x

ArriettyClock1 · 11/03/2017 20:22

I know a nice, posh Haydn - he is 46.

Sadly, I fear the name is now part of the much judged Kayden/Jayden group.

user1471552178 · 11/03/2017 21:30

Please don't be put off a name you really like by other people's opinions...everyone one is different and if we all liked the same then it would very boring! Go with the name you want to call your baby

SuperBeagle · 11/03/2017 21:31

Rightly or wrongly, it has been lumped in with the Aidan/Jayden/Kayden/Brayden names. Very popular 10-ish years ago, now considered dated and chavvy.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 11/03/2017 21:38

Noooo stop saying that about Aidan!
