We really wanted to call our newborn Hayden, so did a little Google and found lots of negative posts... Why is this? :-(

Certain connotations don't gel with some people's aspirations, bionica

what exactly is wrong with a chav name anyway? can someone explain?

Report
joannegrady90 · 12/03/2017 23:05

Because it's plain awful..

There are so many lovely names to choose from, please refrain from "chav" style ones.

What about Harry? Henry? Or is it the sound you like?

Haydn is a proper (Welsh) name.

I'm Welsh and Hayden is the name of one of my Dad's mates to me, along with Dai and Barry and Bryn.

I like Hayden as a boy's name. Wouldn't be my first choice but it's perfectly fine. I knew one who definitely wasn't "chavvy" Hmm - he had a string of show ponies and was from quite an upper middle class family. He was a lovely boy (and a great rider) so I only have positive associations.

Oh god, I'm seriously doubting whether I can now use my (second) most beloved boy's name Aidan without having to put a sign around his neck stating the legit providence and history of his name Confused

Where I live, 'h' is commonly dropped so Hayden end up as Aiden anyway-I can't stand either!!

Hayden is ok but I'd never choose it and I agree with it being a bit chavvy to my ears. I actually like the sound of Harrison better but all three of the Harrisons I've taught have been hard work kids. 'naughty boys' as my 4 year old would say!

I quite like it. Maybe you could consider Hadley or Harley.

I like Hayden/Haydn a lot. Surely it's a good thing for a name to be a bit less popular? My son's name is not very popular but we like it that way, it means there aren't five kids with the same name in his school!

I find it beneficial to completely disregard the opinions of people who describe things as 'chavvy'.

I don't like the sound and that it doesn't travel well into other languages

It's definitely a male name! It's an old a Welsh name and I think it sounds fine. I've never made the connection with Jayden, Kayden etc.

I know a Hayden, he's 16 and from a very middle class family.

I say if you like it, use it.

I dislike the 'Hay' part also it's a bit surnamey.

It's a very old Welsh name. Uncle Hayden and Aunty Marion.

Too similar to Jayden, Kayden, Brayden etc.

There was a Hayden in Home and Away about 25 years ago, don't know of any other males with the name.

Hayden is a perfectly nice name, I can't see anything wrong with it.

'Chavvy' is a nasty, offensive way of describing a name. I hate seeing that word on here.

It was on my shortlist but Hayden Pantylady actress ended up putting me off it as I did not want a unisex name.

I love it. I know a little girl with that name.

I really like the name Hayden! I think it's great. A dear friend of mine has a Hayden - he is about 22/23 now.

I like Kai too.

I guess you associate lovely kids with their names and the Kai and Hayden I know are terrific.
