Which names could I have to use Kitty as a nickname?

Hi everyone, I'm really liking Kitty as a name for DC3 at the minute but I'm not really a fan of Katherine as a longer name to put on the birth certificate.

Dd1 is Evie and I've always regretted not putting a longer name on her birth certificate which she can use when she gets older. She loves the name Evangeline and wishes that had been put on her bc to allow her to pick and choose, hence why I don't want to make the mistake this time round of just giving a cutesy name for baby.
So mumsnetters, can you think of longer names I could have to go with the nickname Kitty?
Thanks a bunch Smile

Kathleen
Katerina
Katherina

Kaitlyn (looks horrible with a K though)
Cathleen
Katerina
Cartriona/Katrina
Basically only Katherine derivatives will give you Kitty. What's wrong with Katherine?

llangennith · 18/02/2017 11:45

My friend Katrina is called Kitty.

TisMeTheLadFromTheBar · 18/02/2017 11:46

Catherine

Nikita
Keira

Hi, thank you. Nothing wrong with Katherine per se, I just know quite a few of them and it just feels weird for me to use it.
I quite like the pronunciation of Catelyn (as in game of thrones Catelyn Stark) but it's pronounced Cat-a-lin, which isn't initially evident from the spelling and I just know I'd end up correcting everybody 24/7. Decisions decisions!

I like Katherine. Classic and dignified, a real grown up name.

Kit is a short for Christopher, so you could have Christine or variants. But I prefer Katherine.

MollyHuaCha · 18/02/2017 11:52

If the nn was Kitty, I wd expect the real name to be one of these:

Catherine (any spelling)
Christine (any spelling)
Caitlin (any spelling)
Katrina (any spelling)

Kitty is a nice name. Definitely a nn of course.

Summertime10 · 18/02/2017 11:55

Some great ideas ladies. I wonder if I could get away with Katlyn without people thinking it was a made up variant of Kaitlin?

Any of my three sons would have been Kitty so I've explored this question at length!

I'd probably have gone for Catherine but here are others from the various lists:

Caitlin
Christabel
Tabitha

Kitty is short for Katherine (and all its traditional variations).

Its pretentious to think it's anything else. If you don't like Katherine, just call your daughter Kitty. Don't make up silly longer names which aren't connected.

Katherine is a perfectly good traditional solid name.

Summertime10 · 18/02/2017 12:22

As previously mentioned it's associated with too many people I know so don't wish to use it- there is no question of it being a lovely name, it really is. Think I'll just go back to the drawing board.
Thanks all

I think you can give your daughter any nickname you like. It doesn't even really have to have a link to her actual name.

weemidden · 18/02/2017 12:22

Kathryn - Scottish traditional and not common

Doilooklikeatourist · 18/02/2017 12:43

Elizabeth can be Kitty
I had a Great Aunt Kit , whose real name was Elizabeth
It's your baby , you choose

Summertime10 · 18/02/2017 12:48

Thanks. I do love the name Elizabeth so that's food for thought.

I know a Girl age 11 who is just Kit

I'm a Catherine known as Kate

MikeUniformMike · 18/02/2017 13:31

Christina, Catherine, Kathryn, Katharine, Christabel, Kathleen...

MikeUniformMike · 18/02/2017 13:36

look on babynamespedia names beginning with kit - there are a couple of really pretty ones

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 18/02/2017 14:03

Kirsten, Katrina, Christina?

Plus, bit of a stretch but perhaps Kitty from Nikita if you didn't like Nikki as a nn.

FartnissEverbeans · 18/02/2017 15:26

I also know a Kitty, mm for Elizabeth. She's young.

Catalina maybe? That's a gorgeous name

The Welsh name Catrin is very beautiful and goes nicely with Evie. How about:

Katarin: Breton form of Catherine
Katrine: pronounced like Catrin, the name of a Scottish loch
Katya/Katja
