Short and sweet classic girls names

My second baby is due in May. We're not sure if it's a girl or boy but already have a boy's name picked.

Names we like (and agree on!) but aren't set on yet are:

May (too little girly?)
Maive (Ithink its beautiful but it rhymes with my husband's name, Dave; plus not so keen on the mythology behind it)
Esther (Love this!)

.....and then we get stuck!

Can anyone suggest some classic, short and sweet girl's names that we might like. I like older names and 'proper' names if that makes sense. Something that would do well for her into adulthood. But that is classicly beautiful - and not done to death!

I think I might be very fussy!!

Big sister is Beth.

I really like Bea but there seems to be so many around, and my daughter's name is Beth. Not so keen on two names with B although that's not a deal breaker.
Similarly can't have names with 'Th' at the start or end as sounds silly with Beth.

I love the idea of Helen shortened to Nell! But my niece is Nell Smile

Lovely names coming though! Thanks everyone. Some I haven't thought of!

Your title immediately made me think "Anne".

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2017 00:36

Kate.

One of my favourite names of all time. If we didn't already have a Kate in the family (short for Katherine, in her case), I would've used it with DD1.

As for Sarah, both Sadie and Sally are traditional shortenings of Sarah. Smile

RuthB4 · 18/02/2017 01:03

Ooh yes! Sadie and Sally are lovely as nicknames for Sarah, especially Sally as it's a family name.

Not a fan of Anne I'm afraid. Too plain for me.

At the moment I think Esther is top of the list but DH needs convincing. I think it's beautiful and goes with Beth well. And it means star which is lovely. But hard to shorten that too.... unless to Ettie but we call Beth Bethie so it's very similar!
