Help me on my treacherous journey to naming DD?

We're having a baby girl!

I have always wanted Lydia but all this ''Lydia Chlamydia" has put me right off.

Love Diana but have been put off recently but the nn Di.

I love Otillie... Dislike Lottie and Tilly so won't be using it.

Like Helen, it's my mum's name, but have been put off by countless novels representing every Helen as a push over/the naive one. Dislike Helena.

Like Athena... Only name DP really agrees on that I'll have.

Like Odette, DH says no way.

Love Posey but understand it is very flowery and unsuitable for a woman.

DH adores Alice but it reminds me of "a lice"

Any suggestions? I like unusual names but nothing tacky/cheap!

Thank you, you lovely lot Grin

Love Athena, it's gorgeous

Love Athena but REALLY love Athene.
You might like Esther, Miriam or Kari?

What about Anthea? X

Josephine with posy for short when she is little?

FartnissEverbeans · 17/02/2017 20:21

Posy is sometimes used as a nickname for Josephine which I think is a beautiful and underused name.

Instead of Helen how about Eleni?

And instead of Lydia you could have Lydie, which I love - I think it's very chic!

In place of Alice, how about Alix/Alixe? That's a royal name in Europe. Alessandra is also beautiful. Maybe Elysia?

Athena is very cool but a tricky name to carry. I'd love to meet one.

Nobody will ever use Fanny for Frances! I don't think there's any worry of that. She would undoubtedly be Fran though.

I like Athena more than Lydia when I can be completely objective about it.

But, as I currently only know 1 of each and the Lydia is the most delightful child ever whereas the Athena is ... less so, I think I'm biased towards Lydia.

Other classic kind of ideas (sorry for any repeats; I've tried to avoid them):
Althea, Adeline, Aurora, Ariadne, Alexandra, Allegra, Beatrix, Bella, Clara, Constance, Cassandra, Cordelia, Claire, Delilah, Daphne, Eleanor, Emma, Elizabeth, Fenella, Georgina, Gabriella, Honor, Harriet, Juliet, Joanna, Katherine, Liliana, Miranda, Madeleine, Maria, Nadia, Natasha, Philippa, Rebecca, Rosa, Saskia, Susannah, Tamara, Verity, Vanessa, Victoria, Zara

I love Helen, Lydia, Athena, Frances and Alice so we have similar tastes. If you choose Helen I think you will be ahead of the curve, as it's actually uncommon for babies now although a well known and recognised name.
