We're having a baby girl!

I have always wanted Lydia but all this ''Lydia Chlamydia" has put me right off.

Love Diana but have been put off recently but the nn Di.

I love Otillie... Dislike Lottie and Tilly so won't be using it.

Like Helen, it's my mum's name, but have been put off by countless novels representing every Helen as a push over/the naive one. Dislike Helena.

Like Athena... Only name DP really agrees on that I'll have.

Like Odette, DH says no way.

Love Posey but understand it is very flowery and unsuitable for a woman.

DH adores Alice but it reminds me of "a lice"

Any suggestions? I like unusual names but nothing tacky/cheap!

Thank you, you lovely lot Grin

I'll add names I think of when I hear those you've mentioned

Lydia- Lucia or Livia

Diana- Delilah

Otillie- Aurelia

Helen- Ellen, Tamsin

Athena- Estelle or Persephone

Odette- Colette

Posey- Peony or Primrose

Alice- Elise

Athena is great. How about Francesca instead of Frances? Corinna was one from our lists that you might like (we never got to use it). Would you consider DeAnna (Dee, Deedee) instead of Diana, or do you like the classical allusion?

Blueisthecolour9 · 17/02/2017 11:48

Not a fan of francesca because it feels too long a name.

Really love classical sounding names (if the name is a classic), so not keen on variations Sad

What about Edith?

I quite like Edith

JayzuzMaryJoseph · 17/02/2017 11:51

Athena is lovely and you both like it. No brainer.

Other suggestions:

Livia
Cora
Lucia
Ophelia

drinkyourmilk · 17/02/2017 11:54

Evelyn
Molly
I love Alice
Grace
Phoebe

mainlywingingit · 17/02/2017 11:57

Primrose if you like Posey?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/02/2017 12:05

Why does Frances = Fanny? All the ones I've known have been Fran (& hated being called Frances but that's by the by).

What about Otilia or Flora?

DeterminedToChange · 17/02/2017 12:06

Wouldn't it be Posy, not Posey?

Susiethetortoiseshellcat · 17/02/2017 13:35

Love Lydia and Alice from your list.

Susiethetortoiseshellcat · 17/02/2017 13:37

I know a couple of Lydia's, they are lovely and no one has ever rhymed their names with anything. It really wouldn't bother me.

Chocolatecake12 · 17/02/2017 13:57

Helen is lovely. I knew a Helen once - she was so nice!
Athena is ok and if you both like it then go for it but if you're posting on here then I'm guessing you're not 100%
No to Lydia, someone once said to me when I was considering it ' lid of ya dustbin'
And it completely put me off!!

Harriet
Vanessa
Corina
Nina
Sophie
Jessica
Kate
Imogen
Astrid
Are just a few other suggestions!

While of course you don't need a justifiable reasons for not choosing a name, some of your reasons are bizarre. We must read different novels as most of my fictional Helens are the tall, elegant best friend who slightly intimidates the protagonist! Is your mum a naive pushover? I don't think that is a very commonly held stereotype of a Helen.

Athena is lovely and you both like it so...?

In a similar vein to some of your names, how about Odile or Olympia?

reuset · 17/02/2017 14:46

DH adores Alice but it reminds me of "a lice"
all this ''Lydia Chlamydia" has put me right off.
DH is adamant all the Frances ladies he's ever known have all had big/pointy noses
it's my mum's name, but have been put off by countless novels representing every Helen as a push over/the naive one.

How ridiculous Grin I have no words!

NewPuppyMum · 17/02/2017 14:48

I've met my first Athena and she's lovely and incredible at her job so I'm biased.

Alice is lovely. I have one with it as a middle name. Never gets a lice. That's just silly.

What about Romily?

Scribblegirl · 17/02/2017 14:56

Juliana?

mistermagpie · 17/02/2017 15:01

My top girls name is Lydia if this baby is a girl! I don't care what it rhymes me, my own name could be rhymed with some unpleasant things but it never ever has been. Nobody called Chris ever gets called 'Chris Piss' do they, I think it's a pointless worry.

Anyway seeing as we have similar taste, my other names are Hazel, Phoebe, Erica and Robyn!

Blueisthecolour9 · 17/02/2017 15:15

I do love Lydia but it appears it's quite popular! I use to think it was nice and classical, yet very underused. Perhaps not.

I would just hate for her to have another Lydia in her class... Portentous and precious I know.

I wouldn't let the nicknames put you off Lydia is lovely. My name is Diane and only one person has ever called me Di - the death stare they got helped enormously!

MrsSkeffington · 17/02/2017 15:22

What about Ophelia?
I think flora is nice as well

hangingoutattheendofmywick · 17/02/2017 15:26

If i had a girl (probably never happen) i would pick
Agatha (favourite ever)
Millicent (Millie)
Dorothy (Dot)
Georgie
Olive

hangingoutattheendofmywick · 17/02/2017 15:26

oh and Mable I like

hangingoutattheendofmywick · 17/02/2017 15:27
