Hi, we really like the name rose, it goes well with our first borns name and its really pretty but our surname is one syllable and I feel like I need to pick a longer name which would shorten to Rose. Rosie is off the table, does anyone have any suggestions? Really appreciate any thoughts

Rosemary is the obvious one to me.

PersisFord · 16/02/2017 21:47

Rosamund? It means rose of the world....so pretty!

redheadlady · 16/02/2017 22:05

@persisford Rosamund reminds me of Rosamund Street off coronation street... I can't get round that though dh really likes it. I didn't realise it meant rose of the world (tho that now of course makes perfect sense) it is very pretty.

Rosa
Rosemary
Rosalie and
Rosalind we've bandied around, all very pretty too, just can't seem to settle on one

I'm Rose with a one syllable surname. I like the crispness of it

PersisFord · 16/02/2017 22:12

Or you could double barrel it?

Rose-Clare?

NapQueen · 16/02/2017 22:13

I know a Rose with a 1 syllable surname and its a nice sounding name. Id not force a longer name if you dont really want to. How often is anyone really referred to as their full name?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/02/2017 22:33

Rosabel
Rosina
Rosita
Rosaria
Rosalia

InTheKitchenAtParties · 16/02/2017 22:42

Go with just Rose. It reminds me of Titanic and that's a good thing.

MikeUniformMike · 16/02/2017 22:59

First names that are hyphenated are not good.
Rose is a pretty name and Clare is nice but Rose-Clare looks odd and sounds like it's a small village in Ireland.

Rose is fine with a 1-syllable surname.

NotSureYet · 16/02/2017 23:02

My nan was Rose Ward, never thought it sounded strange. If you like Rose, go for it.

DramaAlpaca · 16/02/2017 23:04

I think just Rose with a one syllable surname would be perfect.

PopGoesTheOysteryBullshit · 16/02/2017 23:06

Does it have to be a name beginning with Rose?

My middle name is Skye-Rose. Could you think of one you like which ends with Rose?

chatnanny · 16/02/2017 23:11

I know a Rosabella which is pretty I think.

redheadlady · 17/02/2017 08:55

@napqueen thats a good point, no one ever really gets referred to as their full name (me and my bestfriend at school had the same first name and we never ever got called our full names even to differentiate between us)

another name i really like is Pearl (another one syllable!) what does anyone think - i am worried I'm clouded by pregnancy hormones but DH likes it too.

I am reluctant to try out these names on family and friends in case they're too negative because to be honest these are our favourite names so far.

redheadlady · 17/02/2017 09:19

p.s i mean Pearl instead of Rose

OP posts:
FatCatFaces · 17/02/2017 09:22

Just use Rose. DO NOT double barrell it, please!

Rose Smith
Rose Jones
Rose Moore

All one syllable. All sound fine.

FatCatFaces · 17/02/2017 09:24

I like Pearl. It's a bit more granny-chic though. I like gran names. Iris in particular.

badhotfanny · 17/02/2017 09:46

We have a rosemary who we call rose. I recommend it Smile
