Hi, we really like the name rose, it goes well with our first borns name and its really pretty but our surname is one syllable and I feel like I need to pick a longer name which would shorten to Rose. Rosie is off the table, does anyone have any suggestions? Really appreciate any thoughts

I love both of your choices, Pearl is equally as lovely as Rose.
Keep your chosen names to yourselves, until baby is born, that way, you won't invite any unwanted criticism. Just tell everybody, that it's going to be a surprise !

Pearl is beautiful, as is Rose.

PersisFord · 17/02/2017 19:02

......double barrel it if you want to......

MikeUniformMike · 18/02/2017 13:20

it's not double-barrelled, it is hyphenated.

Clankboing · 18/02/2017 13:22

It's fine as Rose on its own with a 1 syllable surname I think.

NapQueen · 18/02/2017 13:22

Errr thats the definition of a double barrelled name. Two names connected with a hyphen

NeepNeepNeep · 18/02/2017 13:24

How about "Mary"? It's a classic.

Ordinarily · 18/02/2017 19:12

It's double barrelled for surnames, hyphenated for first names.

CremeEggThief · 18/02/2017 19:17

I like both Pearl and Rose, but not together, sorry.

I would go for Rosa if I were you and worried about Rose with a short surname.

Alexthekid · 18/02/2017 19:28

What about Roisin?
I know a Roisin who is mostly known as Rose

insan1tyscartching · 18/02/2017 19:31

Pearl and Rose are what I call my daughters.Pearl is a pet name and totally different to dd's given name but it's the name she uses and we've used since she was a baby (because she is small and precious). Rose is Rosie on her birth certificate though.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 19/02/2017 08:59

Rosaleen

vrid85 · 20/02/2017 14:46

I have a friend called Rosanna and DH's Grandma was RosinaSmile

vrid85 · 20/02/2017 14:47

Or you could just go with Rose and choose a longer middle name?

albate · 20/02/2017 17:18

Just use Rose. Also, I never understand why so many people seem to hide it away as a middle name nowadays. It's a beautiful first name by itself.

Serin · 20/02/2017 20:33

Oh go on! Please tell us your one syllable surname is "Red".
Grin
That would be amazing.

SaltedCaramelEverything · 20/02/2017 20:39

I agree Rose on its own is fine. However I love Primrose too that a PP suggested.

Pearl is also nice. You have good taste!

Notso · 20/02/2017 20:42

I was thinking it was Bush or Bud!

Notso · 20/02/2017 20:45

Rose is lovely as a stand alone name BTW def use it.
