Girls name - if I like... ...?

We have 2x DS already and a long list of lovely boys names, but am totally lost with girls names. So many that I would use I can't for various reasons.

So far we can only really agree on Juno, but its just not quite perfect. I think it feels a bit too hard sounding, as well as a little try hard (although I do like slightly less common names, as long as they are 'real' names!)

Other names I love but can't use or don't love enough:
Cleo (Love - but know 2 little Cleos that will before long be in DS2s school class)
Phaedra (Don't like her story)
Phoebe (Really love it but too many around here, and DH not keen. Is it super popular?)
Remi (People seem to think its a boys name, plus DS1 has 4 letter name ending in i so maybe too similar)
Paloma (not right, too try hard?)
Nura (We have arabic boys names but haven't found one that's quite righ for a girl)

Middle names will be Penelope and/or Maria

We are having a girl but if she was a he we love all of the following:

Otis
Rudy
Asa
Francis
Arlo
Elias

So MN, find me a name - or convince me to love one that I have already mentioned!

Very interesting thread. Juno was the only name we could agree on for DD and she's 3 now. Wasn't 100% on it as it felt a bit try hard, but I wouldn't agree to Megan and he wouldn't agree to Stevie, so Juno it was Grin we gave her a very classic, adaptable middle name to compensate. She loves her name. Helps that we're in a metropolitan area where the kids all have fabulously unusual names.

Interestingly, she was nearly an Isis...

Other names I love are:
Stella
Sadie
Soliel
Aurora (although v popular here, which does bother me as I was "juju monster 5" at school)
Luna
Hera
Gaia
Zoe
Wren
Sorrel
Lark

Imaginary DD2 is currently called Soliel, although it changed frequently!

Would love to know your favourite boys names as I'm stuck on Brandon, which I get isn't as out there as Juno, I just really like it. DP hates it obvs Hmm

JujuMonster · 17/02/2017 20:56

I should add that we are very glad we went with Juno as there's not a single other name I could think to call her ponders what I was thinking of with Stevie

NapQueen · 17/02/2017 20:57

There are some lovely names here, thank you, but like you, Juju I think Juno is the only one we will agree on in the end, even though I'' not 100%.

Re boys names juju our love list is in the OP plus I also like Isa, Gabriel, and Rafa/Rafael. I love Spanish boys names but could never use e.g. Diego, Pablo, Pedro - we have no Spanish links!

At the moment our girls short list is
Juno
Mira
Arla
Nayla
Norah

Another reservation I have with Juno is that we do know of one other. That shouldn't bother me, but in context she is the daughter of a friend of a v close friend, and we live in a very small community they will be st same school etc - it's not a problem that there are other kids with the same name but when it's an unusual name and I am fairly sure there is not one other Juno anywhere nearby, it seems like we have stolen her name a bit?

It's a bit awkward in that situation but if you really love it (or can't find anything you like Wink) go for it. My sister has an uncommon name, there were 2 others in our school. my mum openly admits she ' stole' it.

I wouldn't go for Arla. It's a Danish dairy manufacturer which is gaining inroads to the UK supermarkets.

MrsBellefleur · 19/02/2017 11:10

I'm pregnant with dd2, we have a Phoebe already, have only met one in her 4 years and her nursery teacher hadn't had one for 11 years before her.

Names for this baby we are considering are

Juno
Alice
Tessa
Elizabeth
Josephine and
Juliet

BertsBlanket · 20/02/2017 11:31

Noor (to rhyme with door) or Hera?

fruitbrewhaha · 20/02/2017 11:42

what about Pamela? I think it's really sweet.

Swearwolf · 20/02/2017 12:05

What about Callista? Less fancypants than calliope.

And if you like phoebe, perhaps Daphne? Has a similar feel and is awesome.

JujuMonster · 20/02/2017 12:27

I live in a city and know of at least three other Juno's under 3 so I do think it's gaining popularity. Two of them have it as a middle name though rather than a first.

Your list is great Grin although I'd echo the point about Arla being a dairy manufacturer that's gaining market share in UK!

user1486748952 · 20/02/2017 18:10

In line with names you like, there is one (and a variant of it) that you may like...

Sura or Suria, I personally like the latter better :)

ilovetosleep · 21/02/2017 19:16

Ooh think I like those user. Quite like Suri too.

Like Hera beets but never feel quite confident pronouncing it - is it Hair-a or Here-a?
