What do you think of Todd?

No idea if we're having a boy or girl but struggling with boys names.
What do you think of the name Todd? Have a one syllable surname but think it sounds ok

Sorry but for me it's a very ugly sounding name. I'd only heard of it through Neighbours and Todd Carty who's the Eastenders actor. I'm not put off by that though, just the very curt sound of the name.

I was a Todd for the first 30 years of my life. Initially, it never bothered me because it was just my name.
However, I grew up in a horribly abusive house and I had a hard time being bullied in school. The abuse at home was so awful that my name, on reference to me, started to sound like a profanity. People always made fun of it and never pronounced it right.
Even saying it pertaining to myself made me feel bad.

So I legally had my name changed to something that felt pure and made me proud.

That said...

I love the name Todd.
It is short.
Easy to pronounce.
And it literally means "Fox."

I had a hard time with it and childhood trauma made me abandon it. But I would love to see a kid with it.

It's from Todde, Middle English for fox and, as a surname, was used for people who were sly or cunning!

It does make me think of Mr Todd in Beatrix Potter, who tried to eat Jemima Puddle Duck.

But I don't dislike it actually. It sounds "woodlandish." I see a woodcutter with broad shoulders ... Or a tall "foxy whiskered gentleman."

It immediately makes me think of the band Big Head Todd and the Monsters. (That isn't necessarily a negative.)

Showing my age, but the only Todd's that I can think of are Elizabeth Wakefield's boyfriend in Sweet Valley High and Todd off Neighbours.

I don't like it, to be honest. It sounds like it should be short for something but it's not. Like Toddle or Toddler (which aren't names, obviously).

Just deleted my comment as I see it is a very old thread. Why do these old ones spring up?!

I've never heard of a non-American having the name Todd. It seems like the quintessential American name.

Normally, that doesn't bother me, but I don't like Todd at all.

Come to Australia. There are plenty of men of, ahem, a certain age called Todd.
