Is it trully and utterly horrible to do that?

Finding it really hard to find a name for DD2 that both DH and I agree.
We have only one name we like but I am not sure about it, as it is too long.

A colleaugue who knew I wanted to find a Spanish name just told me one of the names he likes for his daughter when he has one it Spanish and told me the name.

I did not think anything at the time about the name, did not think I will consider it either. Well I was just trying to see what Spanish names I like, looking through lists online and this one came up and it is kind of growing on me... Will this be so utterly horrible of me to use it? I will feel so horrible and truly utterly guilty if I used it, just so bad.

I thought if things come to worse and this is the only name DH and I agree/love, I can always ask him if he will mind if I also used it, but wouldn't that put him on the spot? Hate feeling like this...

I will only contact him though if I am certain this is a serious option for us to consider :( Feel so gutted...

'Stealing,' a work colleagues potential name isn't as bad as a close friends!! Would the kids even come into contact with each other if it ever occurred anyway?

Name away!!

Mum8 · 01/02/2017 18:21

Ilovecaindingle not at all, he is not my friend either, but he was jokingly saying, shall I tell you my names? it's not like you will use them and shared two names he loves and now I feel gutted :( He is a nice colleague though so if I announced the name to work without telling him before I will want to run away and say nothing, lol
Do you think he will mind?

What's the name? I really like Carlotta which is the Spanish for Charlotte I think.

greeeen · 01/02/2017 18:40

As you are not friends outside of work and the children won't meet I don't see a problem. I would talk to him first so it's not awkward.

What's the nameGrin (very nosey)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/02/2017 18:48

Name please 🤓

Mum8 · 01/02/2017 18:58

You guys are so bad if not worse than me ;-)
Prefer not to say if that's OK, dont want to feel even more guilty...

Maybe he will be flattered you admired his choice so much!!
Go for it!! Then you can tell mn!!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/02/2017 19:30

Just use it anyway, he may never have a daughter, just Sons, who knows !
His DW/DP, may not like said name.
Which letter does it begin with ? 😂

Mum8 · 01/02/2017 19:53

Was going to text him as I'm now on maternity but DH said that's so awkward. He think better to announce it and then send him a text saying hope he does not mind. Do you think that's better? Had a few other colleagues there when he mentioned the two names he liked... What's better?

If you tell us the name maybe we can help you find a similar version of it? It may have. for example an Italian equivalent which you might like?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/02/2017 20:15

Joking aside, TWIG does have a good point.
I wouldn't do anything about it just yet.
At the end of the day, nobody owns a name.

Mum8 · 01/02/2017 20:37

Guys it's not that special lol and honestly do not like alternatives. It's a normal Spanish/ Italian name and promise to mention it after DD arrives! It's quite common in Spain actually so not anything too unique iykwim. Just wanted to know what's the best way to handle it with my colleague without making the situation uncomfortable...

Luna?

KlingybunFistelvase · 01/02/2017 20:41

Clara?

Floggingmolly · 01/02/2017 21:02

Does your colleague actually have any children, or likely to have in the near future? It's the sort of thing pre teen girls do; tell all and sundry what their future children's names will be Confused
By the time his daughter is born,if he ever has one; his partner may we'll veto his choice of name anyway...

Mum8 · 01/02/2017 21:06

He only has a DS and said that's what he will use for his daughter if he has one, he mentioned two names actually and one of them is one I like

Downstairspoo that's what DH suggested. Just feel bad other colleagues heard his name choices too and then obviously I am stealing one of them. But I guess you are right, he does not own the name...

Macaroni22 · 01/02/2017 21:21

I would definitely mention it to him first just text something like 'Hey so me and DH have been stuck for baby names but we both really love *Spanishname you mentioned, would it be weird if we actually used it? Haha :D' I doubt he'd mind and then you'd feel okay about it. Think it would just be awkward to just announce it

Mum8 · 01/02/2017 22:22

Macaroni22 like your suggestion and more like me to ask before. Your way is so much better than the text I prepared earlier, so much better. Thanks so much! Will let you know how it goes 👍

Mum8 · 02/02/2017 12:32

Macaroni22 He said it's not a problem at all if we used the name as well! Just means his future daughter will share the same name 😊 Thanks for the tip ❤️

Yay :) so...
Can we know the name now?! Grin

Chathamhouserules · 02/02/2017 12:57

Aah! I'd be well proud if someone copied one of my name choices. And no one owns a name. It's lovely to think there will be a person growing up with the name you suggested.

SaltySalt · 02/02/2017 13:09

Ahh love a happy ending Smile what's the name?
