Hi

Be kind please! I am 36 weeks and therefore a bit sensitive Grin

We have a shortlist of boys names, which we have REALLY struggled to agree and I am wondering which you like best. I would prefer not to hear that they are awful or that you really dislike any of them in particular because obviously we are considering them all. But I would love to hear which you genuinely like.

So, here goes:
Toby
Rory
Rufus
Benedict ("Ned" for short)
Sebastian ("Seb" for short)

Thank you! Flowers

Toby or Sebastian.

FuckOffDavid · 30/01/2017 17:33

Ned in Scotland is the equivalent of Chav in England I believe so I wouldn't use that. I like Rory and Toby.

greeeen · 30/01/2017 21:19

Really like them all! Rufus is my favourite.

DarkestBeforeDawn · 30/01/2017 21:25

I have four sons, one of whom is a Ned and I LOVE his name but he is just Ned on his birth cert.

daisydaisychain · 01/02/2017 20:25

I like Rory, it has a nice Scottish feel. Also like Sebastian.

SumAndSubstance · 01/02/2017 21:18

I'd abandon the idea of Benedict being shortened to Ned. It's a traditional nickname for Edward. Benedict would more likely be shortened to Ben and would get hmm looks by others if shortened to Ned.

I taught a boy called Ned, short for Benedict. Everyone called him Ned because that's what he asked to be called. Nobody said, "No, the correct shortening for Benedict is 'Ben'. That's what I will call you'
Everyone knows our DS by the shortened form we use for him because that's what we call him and he calls himself.

DoloresVanCartier · 01/02/2017 21:20

I think they are all fine except for rufus, that's my neighbour, my vet, my cousin and DS friends dogs names!! I like benedict but I don't like Ned for short as in Scotland that's what we call the wee scroats! So it has horrible connotations up here.

EmmaWoodlouse · 05/02/2017 12:32

They are all nice, but I think I like Rory and Rufus best.

WitchesCauldron · 05/02/2017 15:01

The last two. Toby is an awful name. Reminds me of a famous Carvery outlet

Yika · 05/02/2017 15:07

They are all lovely names but Rufus is my favourite, followed probably by Benedict (in my view a pity to shorten it to Ned :)).

lizzieoak · 05/02/2017 15:11

Not quite as keen on Benedict (sounds both bossy and Cumberbatchish), but love the others. Probably Toby or Rufus are my favourites.

rubberducker · 05/02/2017 16:21

I love Benedict/Ned. Ned would definitely have been on our list for ds3 but it does not go with our surname at all!

RubyBluesey · 06/02/2017 00:03

Sebastian

hoddtastic · 06/02/2017 00:05

rory

Elianna · 06/02/2017 00:08

My vote's for Sebastian.

Pipilangstrumpf · 06/02/2017 09:14

Rory and Rufus are borh good strong names that don't need shortening.

I dislike Seb and Ned, they sound so soft and weak and aren't nice shortenings imo

BikeRunSki · 06/02/2017 09:16

Rory and Toby
Love Ned. Hate Benedict.

zukiecat · 07/02/2017 12:34

Rufus or Benedict for me

I'm not a fan of shortened names at all but Ned is nice

Snifftest · 07/02/2017 13:02

Rufus for me. But I might be bias Grin

minipie · 07/02/2017 13:03

I really like them all!

In order of preference:

Rory/Rufus (joint first)
Toby
Benedict (but not keen on Ned, would use Ben)
Sebastian (not terribly keen on the Seb nn)

If you want any other suggestions may I add Dominic?
