Which boy's name do you prefer

Hi

Be kind please! I am 36 weeks and therefore a bit sensitive Grin

We have a shortlist of boys names, which we have REALLY struggled to agree and I am wondering which you like best. I would prefer not to hear that they are awful or that you really dislike any of them in particular because obviously we are considering them all. But I would love to hear which you genuinely like.

So, here goes:
Toby
Rory
Rufus
Benedict ("Ned" for short)
Sebastian ("Seb" for short)

Thank you! Flowers

I really like them all!

In order of preference:

Rory/Rufus (joint first)
Toby
Benedict (but not keen on Ned, would use Ben)
Sebastian (not terribly keen on the Seb nn)

If you want any other suggestions may I add Dominic?

Rufus or Benedict for me

I'm not a fan of shortened names at all but Ned is nice

Rory and Toby
Love Ned. Hate Benedict.

Rory and Rufus are borh good strong names that don't need shortening.

I dislike Seb and Ned, they sound so soft and weak and aren't nice shortenings imo

I love Benedict/Ned. Ned would definitely have been on our list for ds3 but it does not go with our surname at all!

Not quite as keen on Benedict (sounds both bossy and Cumberbatchish), but love the others. Probably Toby or Rufus are my favourites.

They are all lovely names but Rufus is my favourite, followed probably by Benedict (in my view a pity to shorten it to Ned :)).

The last two. Toby is an awful name. Reminds me of a famous Carvery outlet

They are all nice, but I think I like Rory and Rufus best.

I think they are all fine except for rufus, that's my neighbour, my vet, my cousin and DS friends dogs names!! I like benedict but I don't like Ned for short as in Scotland that's what we call the wee scroats! So it has horrible connotations up here.

I'd abandon the idea of Benedict being shortened to Ned. It's a traditional nickname for Edward. Benedict would more likely be shortened to Ben and would get hmm looks by others if shortened to Ned.

I taught a boy called Ned, short for Benedict. Everyone called him Ned because that's what he asked to be called. Nobody said, "No, the correct shortening for Benedict is 'Ben'. That's what I will call you'
Everyone knows our DS by the shortened form we use for him because that's what we call him and he calls himself.

I like Rory, it has a nice Scottish feel. Also like Sebastian.

I have four sons, one of whom is a Ned and I LOVE his name but he is just Ned on his birth cert.

Really like them all! Rufus is my favourite.

Ned in Scotland is the equivalent of Chav in England I believe so I wouldn't use that. I like Rory and Toby.

Toby or Sebastian.

I love Toby! It was in my top 3 but DH doesn't like it as much as I do.

I also like Sebastian and Benedict, although I do think it's likely to be shortened to Ben.

I've read a few comments (on this thread and others) about Toby and Seb being "wet" but I completely disagree! God forbid a boy's name should be at all feminine (although I don't think it is actually)... Never mind all the threads on here about people giving their daughters boys' names!!

I like Rufus. Cool, strong and not overused.

Sebastian is ok but I find the nicknames Seb/Basty so weak an wet sounding.
