I appreciate they are very different sounding names- What are people's opinions? Quinn potentially for a boy or girl.

Thanks

I only know boys named Quinn. It's similar to Finn or Flynn and very masculine sounding imo. Often a nickname for Quentin.

Dolly is cute for a girl but maybe name her Dolores.

Artandco · 23/01/2017 12:34

Dorothea - Dolly nickname is fine, but I think Dolly without a stronger name as adult they might not like

Quinn is a boys name to me, short for Quintin

ArseyTussle · 23/01/2017 12:36

How about Della, nn Dolly?

Quinn is too Quim for me I'm afraid.

NameChange30 · 23/01/2017 12:42

Not Dolly! My first association is with a doll (women and girls get objectified enough as it is!) and it also makes me think of "dolly bird"... yuk.

I like Quinn for a boy but not a girl.

What other names are on your shortlist?

MoreThanUs · 23/01/2017 12:44

Quinn for a girl is brilliant. Dolly is beyond horrendous.

Sophronia · 23/01/2017 14:19

Neither

Puremince · 23/01/2017 14:24

Quinn is ok when it's typed, but has to be handwritten very carefully to avoid looking like Quim.

Batteriesallgone · 23/01/2017 14:26

Avoid Quim. Think of the handwriting as said above.

Dorothy / Dorothea are lovely

Blossomdeary · 23/01/2017 14:26

Quinn is skating on the brink of quim I feel.

Bostonbullsmumma · 23/01/2017 14:48

Back to the drawing board.... thanks all

Quinn can be quite rude sounding in English it sounds like a very rude naughty word, that's the reason I wouldn't use it

QuinnPerkins · 23/01/2017 20:15

What on earth does quim mean? Confused This isn't a term I'm familiar with. Take it it's sex related, so I won't Google!

Batteriesallgone · 23/01/2017 20:40

Quim is slang for vagina. Or vulva. Not sure on the specifics but certainly the female downstairs area Grin

QuinnPerkins · 23/01/2017 20:49

Every day's a school day!

Perhaps I should name change...

Bostonbullsmumma · 23/01/2017 20:53

Had no idea Confused

I've never heard of quim... but I'm not in the UK.

NameChange30 · 23/01/2017 21:15

I'm in the UK and reasonably well read/educated but I had never heard the word "quim" before reading it on MN baby name threads.

Maybe it's a regional or generational thing??

BertrandRussell · 23/01/2017 21:27

It's in Shakespeare,daaaaahlings!!!!!

MrsNuckyThompson · 23/01/2017 21:31

I knew a Dolores shortened to Dolly. Quite like it.

Batteriesallgone · 23/01/2017 21:33

I don't think it's a well educated thing!

I always assumed some kind of link with queef. But no idea where it comes from.

MollyHuaCha · 23/01/2017 21:34

Neither of these names for me I'm afraid.

Batteriesallgone · 23/01/2017 21:34

Is it?!! Just seen Bertrands post. Does that make me well educated

SpikeGilesSandwich · 23/01/2017 21:37

Quinn is great, I always liked it back in the 90's when watching Daria.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 23/01/2017 21:38

Dolly on the other hand just makes me think of a cloned sheep, sorry.

ConfessorKahlan · 23/01/2017 21:41

Neither.
