Jonty or Monty?

Leaning towards Jonty as it works a bit better with other initials in the family (too many Mr M. Surname if we go for Monty) but still struggling to decide.

Would want it to be Jonty or Monty on the birth certificate too, not just a nn.

Honest opinions please! Due any day and really need to decide.

Middle name suggestions also welcome...

Neither. Sorry!

But are these names traditional in your family. What does your family think of your choices?

YoScienceBitch · 21/01/2017 18:33

Oooh I really like both.

declansyellowsocks · 21/01/2017 18:39

They're both cute but I only like them as nicknames, sorry (Jonty as a nn for Jonathan, especially).

Jooni · 21/01/2017 18:45

I like them as full names. Nothing wrong with putting either of them on the BC I don't think.

Personally, I prefer Monty. Jonty is more unusual though and sound very... er, jaunty.

EssentialHummus · 21/01/2017 18:47

Neither, sorry.

redcaryellowcar · 21/01/2017 18:48

I like both, I prefer Monty.

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2017 18:48

Neither. Geri Halliwell has just named her new baby 'Montague' and Monty for short.

Monty is more of a pet's name IMO.

scardeyy · 21/01/2017 18:48

Neither

Parisbanana · 21/01/2017 18:49

Monty sounds more fun, a bit along the lines of Woody.
Jonty sounds a bit posh.
I like both but prefer Monty.

flumpybear · 21/01/2017 18:50

I like both but only know dogs called Monty ... plus I'd rather use a longer name then shorten

EmmaC78 · 21/01/2017 18:52

I really like the name Jonathon so I would use that and then use Jonty as a nn.

DoloresVanCartier · 21/01/2017 19:50

Neither, sorry

smilingsarahb · 21/01/2017 19:54

Jonty

greeeen · 21/01/2017 20:01

Jonty, but I like both

HardcoreLadyType · 21/01/2017 20:12

I dislike nicknames as names. (I'm not even keen on Jack, or Harry which have been known as names in their own right for a long time.)

But if I have to choose, I prefer Jonty. Monty makes me think of Uncle Monty from Withnail and I.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/01/2017 20:22

Jonty, it's a lovely name, but I can't imagine an adult being called this.
It's usually a nick name forJonathan.
However, I like it, and much prefer it to Monty.

jenniuol · 21/01/2017 20:25

Monty.

AlwaysTeaTime · 21/01/2017 20:31

Jonty if I have to pick one of these, but I prefer it as a nn for Jonathan which is quite an unusual name for babies now!

Pluto30 · 21/01/2017 20:52

I know a Jonty, but it's short for Jonathan.

I prefer that to just Jonty.

missyB1 · 21/01/2017 20:55

Jonty I know too many dogs called Monty!

throwingpebbles · 21/01/2017 21:07

Jonathan with Jonty as a nickname. Then he has choice of either those names or Jon as he gets older.

Stonewash · 21/01/2017 21:31

I prefer Monty. It's posh (as nickname) but sounds like someone with character.

To me, Jonty sounds a bit affected.

BertrandRussell · 21/01/2017 21:33

Neither. You are naming an adult, not a baby or a toddler.

Mallowmarshmallow · 21/01/2017 21:41

I like Monty as a nickname for Montgomery (or Geri Halliwell's Montague...).
However, I think it's pretty posh. I wanted it for our first son but was overruled by family and tbf we're probably not middle class enough.

RusholmeRuffian · 21/01/2017 21:52

Jonty is my least favourite name ever. Monty is better but that isn't saying much.
