Jonty or Monty?

Leaning towards Jonty as it works a bit better with other initials in the family (too many Mr M. Surname if we go for Monty) but still struggling to decide.

Would want it to be Jonty or Monty on the birth certificate too, not just a nn.

Honest opinions please! Due any day and really need to decide.

Middle name suggestions also welcome...

Neither.

Jonty. I know an adult Jonty and its a great name

ScarletSienna · 21/01/2017 23:56

As neither would be the shortened forms, I'd go for Jonty as he could then choose to be Jon and I like flexibility in names Grin

Sophronia · 22/01/2017 00:11

Neither. I do like Jonathan though.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/01/2017 00:25

Neither. Itd be okay if you have twins. Grin.
Seriously though. Is Jonty not a girls name.

CakeRattleandRoll · 22/01/2017 05:48

I really like Jonty.

SuffolkingGrand · 22/01/2017 05:50

Neither.

Pipilangstrumpf · 22/01/2017 07:45

I like both but would choose Jonty if it sounds better with your surname.

TheoriginalLEM · 22/01/2017 07:56

Jonty sounds like a character from an Enid Byton novel. It conjures up images of a rather camp, upper middle class fop who lives off mummy and daddy 's allowance. Wears brightly coloured scarves and drives an open top scarf. He's never sad but people don't really take him seriously. He will be part of the hunting fishing and shooting set but only for the parties, he is well known for missing or falling off his horse.

Monty is more serious although has his mischievous side. He too is a bit posh but quite a man's man. He will be a natural leader and quite politically aware.

Both will be popular with the ladies.

Jonty is so bad
Monty is ok

Kelsey28 · 22/01/2017 15:11

Both are horrible names.

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/01/2017 15:11

Please don't pick either!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/01/2017 15:13

Neither unless the short forms of fuller names.

Roseandbee · 22/01/2017 18:39

sorry neither, at a push Monty is better

I dread to think what Jonty & Monty might have got up to at boarding school & i feel they both have issues pronouncing their Rs.

I don't mind posh sounding names on the whole & I'm actually a fan of old fashioned sounding names but those two seem to have negative connotations for me, sorry!

I was at university with a Jonty. He ended up on a series of Big brother about 10 years ago, he talked to his teddy bear. He was very eccentric.

He was quite the Jonty stereotype.

I have only ever known dogs called Monty, but they were all lovely.

Cowgoesmoo · 22/01/2017 19:39

I wanted Montgomery nn Monty for DS but my husband didn't like it. I think it's quite classic and I don't know of any dogs called Monty.

I really, really dislike Jonty, it seems very try-hard, although as a pp said it could be shortened to Jon which is rather nice.

buttercup54321 · 22/01/2017 22:04

Prefer Jonathan on BC and Jonty as NN. Monty not at all.

Joeybee · 22/01/2017 22:25

I really don't like either of these name, sorry. I think Monty would be a lovely nn for Montgomery though, and he's get called Monty by most people anyway.
