Boys Names - what do you think of these?

We have made a first list of boys names which we will eventually want to whittle down to 2-3. We are Welsh and live in Wales so some are Welsh names. Which do you like best? Popularity isn't really a consideration for us so we don't mind if it's one of the top names we just want something we both like.

Cai
Caian
Caio
Eli
Elias
Harri
Ifan (Ee-fan)
Luca
Lucas
Madoc
Noah
Rhydian
William

I have a Welsh name and live in England, often have to spell it/give pronunciation guide in England but it doesn't bother me. Everyone can say it and spell it in Wales Grin

I really like Ifan.

MollyWho · 17/01/2017 09:28

Ifan is my fave from your list closely followed by William.

Bundao · 17/01/2017 09:34

I love the name Caio. It's really common where I live in South America but I've never heard it in the UK. Lovely name.

Cakingbad · 17/01/2017 09:57

Rhydian.
Maybe because of the lovely boy in Wolfblood.

veryexcitingtimes · 20/01/2017 22:20

Ifan or madoc or 3rd choice Elias.
I love Ifan and madoc and also quite like Harri.
I spell both my first and surname everytime as it's not an English name and it doesn't bother me and I get compliments several times a week on having a beautiful unusal name so I'd go for something a bit cool

Quite surprised how many people seem to think that just because a name isn't a traditional English one, or because they themselves can't pronounce it, then the name must be wrong, made up or will face a lifetime of spelling issues! Pretty narrow minded really!

I love Caio, Ifan, Elias and Luca.

Also love Osian, Owain, Iago and Macsen

P.S. I and an awful lot of people I know have grown up with Welsh names OP, and have survived unscathed!

eachtigertires · 21/01/2017 00:57

My favourite is Caio but I believe it's Portuguese.

Twozealotmorethan1 · 24/01/2017 22:31

I know a few Caios who live in Wales.... All small boys.

Rather than Elias I prefer Elis / Ellis.

Don't like Madoc (mad-dog).
What about Macsen (Macs), Iori, Emrys, Llew, Llyr or Iolo?
All are quite popular in Wales but not to my personal taste.

Idris, Osian, Tomos, Twm, Gruffydd (Gruff) and Harri are other Welsh boys names I like.

Twozealotmorethan1 · 24/01/2017 22:33

Hear Ethan and Ifan are completely different names so can't substitute one spelling for another....

Sorry but I am really bored of Noah and Luca- nice sounding names but I think in the future they will date as they're sooooo 2014-2017. Lucas is better than Luca for this reason. William is also extremely popular but it's more classic and will hold its place better so it's a nice classic neutral choice. I'm not keen on Cai (probably me being snobby but it sounds downmarket to me- again, sorry). Eli sounds more Jewish than Welsh to me. Madoc is a surname and I hate surnames used as names.

For a proper Welsh name that's not going to date, I like Rhydian, Elias or Ifan.
