Would it be really awful to call him Robin?

DS is due in May, so still plenty of time to choose but the only name we both see to love is Robin.
Now there is of course nothing wrong with that name - it's lovely - but (as I've mentioned this before on here) DP's surname is Hood. Now DS will have some combination of both out surnames but ultimately he will have Hood in there. So my question is, is it setting him up for trouble calling him Robin? And if so what else can we call him??

Sorry, but no name involving Robin Hood is going to go well.

TheMortificadosDragon · 24/12/2016 08:08

Call him Robert and use Robin as a family nickname.

InTheDessert · 24/12/2016 08:13

It's a lovely name, but a no goer with that surname. Sorry. Even if hood was a middle name, it would only take one person to spot it, and would never be forgotten..
can't make the link with most of these, but anything here that takes your fancy?

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 24/12/2016 08:15

It's fine.

I know a Luke Sky Walker...

originalmavis · 24/12/2016 08:21

I know a few (Scotland). Never thought of Robin Hood!

Evergreen17 · 24/12/2016 08:30

I would say no
Robin is one of my picked names and even though our surname is nothing close to Hood I have been worried that people will go oh Robin like Robin Hood.
Confused Now I am thinking maybe you are joking Blush

JennyOnAPlate · 24/12/2016 08:33

No, you can't call him robin.

SilenceOfThePrams · 24/12/2016 08:33

Hyphenate his last name so the hood is at the end of it, or just give him the last name which isn't Hood.

Rainatnight · 24/12/2016 08:34

It's a really lovely name but not with Hood. Sorry.

addstudentdinners2 · 24/12/2016 08:34

Haha no you definitely can't call him Robin Hood - the poor boy's life will be a misery.

Manumission · 24/12/2016 08:34

Can't you mesh surnames? Smile

addstudentdinners2 · 24/12/2016 08:35

Even with a double barrelled surname it would sound ridiculous

Cosmicglitterpug · 24/12/2016 08:36

My dad is. Robert with the middle name Hood (Scottish). Will the Hood be completely middle? Or will be Robin Smith Hood?

IHeartKingThistle · 24/12/2016 08:37

I taught someone with a double-barrelled first name, one of which was Indiana, and a double-barrelled surname, one of which was Jones. It was still funny, sorry.

Friolero · 24/12/2016 08:37

No, I'm sorry, you'd be setting him up to be teased.

Yes but cosmic "Robert" isn't the same as "Robin"

ThatsWotSheSaid · 24/12/2016 08:40

No you can't sorry. I knew someone with a name like that and whenever he signed up to a gym or anything he would be accused of winding them up.

RubyWinterstorm · 24/12/2016 08:40

Please don't!

Cosmicglitterpug · 24/12/2016 08:42

I know that add. I was just saying. My unintentional full stop after is made the sentence read incorrectly.

He got called Robin as a boy a bit and I don't think it was thought of as that odd.

I think if the Hood disappears into the middle names you could get away with it.

CleverQuacks · 24/12/2016 08:43

My youngest is called Robin so obviously I love the name! I don't think I would have picked it if my surname was hood though, sorry.

dylexicdementor11 · 24/12/2016 08:43

I know a Robin Banks. His parents never thought the name would be an issue.

BayaGoji · 24/12/2016 10:07

Is it setting him up for trouble calling him Robin?

Yes, very much so.

And if so what else can we call him?

Any one of the thousands of other names in existence that wouldn't have people laughing at him for his whole life?

buttercup54321 · 24/12/2016 10:17

Yes really awful. Do you really want your son to be teased? Ryan? Robert (though would still be Rob Hood so not much better), Rodney? Ronan,or Ronnie?

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 24/12/2016 10:24

You can't call him Robin, bloody hell. And I'm usually quite open minded re names!

I bet something else will capture you before May, and robin can be a sweet little joke name for home.
