Jessica by a mile. It's popular for a reason. Really dislike Jemima.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/12/2016 10:18

Jessica, I really like Jess.

Orientalcatlady · 15/12/2016 11:30

Adore Jemima beautiful name and not over used. American association not relevant in U.K. Where it has a very upper class vibe.
Jessica also nice but very common.

Jooni · 15/12/2016 12:23

I love Jemima!

Quite like Jess as a nickname but Jessica is a bit dull and feels a bit dated to me.

ClaudiaWankleman · 15/12/2016 12:29

Jemima is lovely, so is Jessica. Jessica is more overused.

It makes me laugh that someone always brings up that the child will supposedly be cursed in the US for their name Hmm

ReadySteadyNo · 15/12/2016 12:30

I love Jessamine. I know you didn't ask for other ideas, sorry.

Newyearnewbrain · 15/12/2016 12:36

I have a Jessica and she's a Jessie. Really suits her. So, Jessica!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/12/2016 12:36

I like them both.

Jessica slightly edges it because I like the nn Jess, Jessie, Jecca.

I don't like Gemma or Jemma.

caffelatte100 · 15/12/2016 12:38

Jemima, but I also love Jessamine.

FatOldBag · 15/12/2016 12:48

Jessica is lovely. I don't like Jemima or Gemma, sorry.

ViewBasket · 15/12/2016 13:04

I like Jessica, also Jessamine and Jasmine.

1horatio · 15/12/2016 13:42

Jemima.

Staranise123 · 15/12/2016 13:53

Jemima

ZuzaPa · 15/12/2016 13:57

Jemima. Love it

MoosicalDaisy · 15/12/2016 14:37

I'm a Jemima, brought up loving Jemima Puddle Duck, so when this was mentioned in the playground some years ago, it didn't bother me. NN : Jem, Jemmi, Jemmy, Mimi, Mimor, Jemimi :)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/12/2016 16:30

Jessica. I'm not s fan of Jamima

Loafingaround · 15/12/2016 18:25

Jessica all the way. Its been popular for several decades for a reason (as one of the prettiest while still punchy sounding/not twee names) will never sound dated.

Largemelons · 15/12/2016 18:28

My Jessica is 18 and goes by Jess or Jessie.
I still love it. She's cool, feisty and intelligent. (Not biased at all obvs)

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/12/2016 18:49

Jemima, definitely. Jessica is a bit 'meh', imho...

Pluto30 · 15/12/2016 20:02

Never said such a thing. I said I'd avoid it because it has strong racist connotations in the US. There's a solid possibility that, being in the 21st century, the OP's child will at least travel to the US at some point. I'm sure she'd get some Confused looks from people for her name, in the same way that an American tourist I came across recently gave a Confused look at the fact that we sell Golliwog dolls in many stores, without a second thought as to their racist connotations.

1horatio · 15/12/2016 20:08

Btw, why is the name racist in the US? I've hard very often that it is but never read an explanation why?

Pluto30 · 15/12/2016 20:13

Because the Aunt Jemima is a racist caricature. It was designed based on mammy stereotypes. It's got the same sort of connotations as the tar baby, or the golliwogs from Noddy.

1horatio · 15/12/2016 20:25

Hm... still love the name. And I don't like Jessica.

But considering this... maybe Jessica would be better? Shoot,

FaerieDusting · 15/12/2016 20:28

Jessica

AladdinsPurpleSparklyCarpet · 15/12/2016 20:30

I prefer Jess but there are a billion Jess, Jessie and Jessica's at dds school.
