Posy

I am pregnant with my first child, I don't know if I am having a boy or girl at this point. My favourite name for a girl is Posy. I also love Peony but someone very near me used it so I won't. My OH hates Posy and there is no way he'll ever agree to using it if we have a girl unfortunately. Is it really that awful? I like flower names in general, Violet, Rose and Daisy are all lovely but I feel Posy is more original and less common.

Camellia not Camilla.

Monochromecat · 14/12/2016 20:50

Yep, Posy, Perkin and Pootle...

QueenLaBeefah · 14/12/2016 20:52

I love posy.

soupforbrains · 14/12/2016 21:11

I love the name Posy. My first pony was called Posy. God I loved that lazy lump.

In human terms. My sister in law is named Posy. I've always liked it. Partly because of ballet shoes and partly because it's pretty, short and uncommon.

angryangryyoungwoman · 14/12/2016 21:14

I like it!

DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2016 21:48

I suppose it's OK as a baby nickname for Josephine, but I don't like it as a standalone name.

Pipilangstrumpf · 14/12/2016 22:02

Josephine is a lovely name!

Littlefoxy · 14/12/2016 22:40

I don't think it works for a teenager or adult. And it just makes me think of the insult 'Posey'. What about Dahlia? That's unusual & botanical. You could have Lia as a nn.

AngharadTheSplendid · 14/12/2016 22:46

12 week old DD2's middle name is Posy. We use it as a nickname at home sometimes as DD1 can't pronounce her first name. I love being able to use it as a little pet name for her, it's so sweet.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 14/12/2016 22:59

Rosa, perhaps?

A compromise between Posy/ Rosie/ Daisy, which apparently some perceive to be more of a 'child only' name, (personally, I don't quite see that), and something which also translates beautifully to adulthood.

And still keeps the floral-sounding theme...

Pretty, yet also strong (the Rosa I know is one hell of a confident person!).

HoratioNightboy · 14/12/2016 23:06

Posy Fossil to me too. I love the name as a child, but as an adult I'm not sure it matures well.

Tansy is my favourite flower name at the moment.

ThinkPinkStink · 14/12/2016 23:31

I liked Posy for DD1 - it was vetoed, but we agreed on Rosemary, her nicknames are: Rose, Ro, Rosie and Posy (1:0 to me!)

Buntysoven · 15/12/2016 00:14

My cockateils can whistle the theme tune to The Flumps. Sorry. Not helpful.Blush

BlackbirdSingsInTheDeadOfNight · 15/12/2016 12:25

I was - and still am - a huge fan of Ballet Shoes. I always thought Posy was a much prettier name than Pauline or Petrova!

How about Cecily or Ottilie? Maybe not to your taste, OP, but to me they sound like a similar 'sort' of name iyswim.

Jooni · 15/12/2016 12:31

I like Posy, but it does feel a bit childish. However, there are lots of names like that around at the moment (Teddy, Maisie, Kitty...) so I think it will actually fit in just fine in 20 or 30 years. It's sweet and sort of quietly quirky.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/12/2016 20:55

Love Posy !
Mimosa
Primrose
Jasmine

Blacksox · 15/12/2016 20:58

God, I hate it!

It's so insipid and fey. It might just be cute on a small child, but imagine being called Posy as an adult!

OnMyShoulders · 15/12/2016 21:08

I have a Posy. I think it's a beautiful, feminine name.

Lizziedoll · 15/12/2016 21:13

On my shoulders yay! Is it short for anything. It's a wonderful name. It clearly seem to divide people though, bit of a marmite one Confused

OP posts:
Cynara · 15/12/2016 21:18

I can just about imagine a very tiny baby Posy, although I'd still think it was ridiculous, but for an adult it just doesn't work. I can't imagine a competent, professional woman named Posy.

OnMyShoulders · 15/12/2016 21:36

Nope, just Posy. Her middle name is Violet. It's definitely considered a bit of a Marmite name though.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 15/12/2016 21:40

Remember Ballet Shoes? When the character is introduced someone says: "I'm afraid her name is Posy"

Lamornac · 15/12/2016 21:40

Love Posy!

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 15/12/2016 21:43

I have to agree with some of the others on here and say that for me Posy is a babies name and doesn't work for anyone over about 7.

Ilovewillow · 15/12/2016 21:55

I love Posy, my son was going to be Posy Florence, I also have a Willow. Other names we considered were Fleur and Flora.
