DD1 is due in early February and we've whittled our name shortlist down to the following but chronic indecision has now set in and I feel like I'm going name-blind! Please help!

Middle name would likely be either Emily or Christina (both family names).

Margot
Edith (nn Edie)
Ava
Daisy
Hazel
Lily

Thanks :)!

You have three of my daughters names on your list and Margot is on my shortlist for this one if it's a girl!
Fwiw Ava mines 6 and there's another one in hervyear but they're the only ones in the whole school.
Daisy (5) - 3 in the whole school she's the only one in her year
Lily - mine is a teenager but I only know of 2 in the primary school.
Even popular names are rarely THAT ubiquitous. If you like them then use them!

Jooni · 06/12/2016 17:22

I like Margot best.

Hazel is also lovely. I like Daisy and Ava too but they're much less interesting than those two.

Not keen on Edith/Edie and especially Lily.

junebirthdaygirl · 06/12/2016 17:47

Edith is a beautiful name in itself. Margot is OK. I like Hazel. It's pretty unusual. Others are just everywhere these days although they are nice names.

reindeerbitesback · 06/12/2016 19:32

I love Daisy, I feel it's had a lull in popularity lately (not sure what the official figures show) and is seemingly underrated.

Hazel and Ava are gorgeous.

Margot is my first choice for my baby if it is a girl. I have adored the name for all of my life, it's truly beautiful. OH still needs convincing, though.

Edith is stunning. I've also been considering this.

The only one I'm not particularly keen on is Lily, but mainly as I named all my stuffed animals Lily as a child so find it quite a juvenile name.

We have very similar taste, OP!

Hazel was the name of a close friend of mine. She was blonde, so I don't think her hair colour will matter. I love it and daisy from your list. I also like edith, but prefer edie. Congrats! [Flowers]

user1472334322 · 06/12/2016 19:42

Well that didn't work!Flowers

user1472334322 · 06/12/2016 19:43

That's what I was trying to do! Congrats, op Flowers

MollyHuaCha · 06/12/2016 19:49

My favorites from your list are Edith (Edie) and Margot.

I know an adult Margot and she has the inevitable two issues with this name: people writing Margo, and People pronouncing Margot as Margotte. Despite this, I still think it's a really pretty name. Enjoy choosing.

MikeUniformMike · 06/12/2016 19:56

Margot. Prefer Christina to Emily. Ava, Daisy and Lily are pretty but too popular and I hate Lil. Edie is pretty, Edith not. Hazel makes me think of Watership Down.

goose1964 · 06/12/2016 19:58

Only like Hazel, but love both middle names

PosiePaRumPaPaPumParker · 06/12/2016 19:59

I only like Margot. The others are okay but very common.

buttercup54321 · 06/12/2016 20:01

Lily is nice. Prefer Emily to all of them. Margot too similar to Maggot.

Timefor2 · 06/12/2016 20:12

Nice names but less keen on Margot and Edith

Katkin14 · 06/12/2016 20:20

All lovely names. Think Hazel is fine for a fair child. Prefer Hazel, Edith and Margot. I like the others, but they're a bit over done now. From someone with a name that every fifth woman my age has I wish my parents had gone with something a bit more unusual.

reindeerbitesback · 06/12/2016 20:27

Just read that you like Edie but OH isn't sure if Edith, I know an Elodie who gets Edie (early 30s). What about Edina? I also know of a baby Edie (stand alone name).

BingThing · 06/12/2016 20:49

I love Edie. I know an Edie Rae (middle name) which is pretty. I really like Margot too.

DramaAlpaca · 06/12/2016 21:04

Hazel is the only one I really like from your list, and I love both middle names.

Daisy is too cutesy for my taste
Margot & Edith are too old lady for me, and I find Margot very harsh
Ava & Lily are nice enough, but they are everywhere.

JClarke7 · 07/12/2016 09:23

Thanks for all your comments - I'm a MN newbie and I must say I'm now hooked!

Christina and Emily are names of ladies already in the family so are unfortunately off limits for a first name choice but we wanted to use one as a mn as a nod to either my mum or niece. Just need to pick a first name now before settling on the mn!

I love Edith, currently front runner on our list. I know it won't be to everyone's taste though

emsyj37 · 08/12/2016 18:20

My DD2 is a blonde haired blue eyed Hazel. I love the name and have yet to meet another.
My DMum is called Margot so it is an old lady name to me (sorry DMum)! She has suffered misspelling and mispronunciation for 77 years but finally her name is in fashion!!! Grin
Hazel is the best name IMO.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 08/12/2016 18:21

Hazel or Edith.

emsyj37 · 08/12/2016 18:24

Oh and Edith was my nan's name - how funny. You've got 3 generations of my family on your list!!

allthatnonsense · 08/12/2016 18:25

Margot

dotdotdotmustdash · 08/12/2016 18:38

Hazel is a beautiful, strong and rich name. The rest are naff and cutesy except Margot which is just dated - not classy.

I do not own a Hazel, but I've liked it on a few people I've known over the years. It's a wise choice.

ToesToesToes · 08/12/2016 18:57

Margot, Hazel and Edith are my favourites in that order.
