Hi,

We are looking for the perfect name. We think we have found it: Jae.

We are living in London, so need something that works here. Jae does :-)

What do you think of it?

Thank you very much,

Mrs Kim

How is it pronounced? Is it Jay (to rhyme with play) or Jai (to rhyme with pie)?

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:38

...to rhyme with play :-)

The child will probably have it misspelt as Jay a lot.

What is the London thing about?

MrsMulder · 05/12/2016 14:41

I would think he was called James abbreviated to Jay, I like it though

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:42

We need something that works in London/UK :-)

Why not spell it Jay instead of Jae?

WhisperingLoudly · 05/12/2016 14:43

Jay works pretty well in London I'd imagine Smile

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:43

Because Jay isn't the same

Personally, I would register the name as something more classic, like James, then shorten it to Jae.

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:44

James isn't Korean, so that wouldn't work :-)

NerrSnerr · 05/12/2016 14:44

I would possibly think your child is a girl and you're trying to spell it more of a feminine way. It will be misspelt as Jay all the time.

WhisperingLoudly · 05/12/2016 14:45

A million and one James shorten their name to Jay. It's popular. Spelling it differently won't make it a different.

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:45

Jae is Korean, it is not the same as Jay

OP posts:
badtasteflump · 05/12/2016 14:46

Ok well I didn't know you were looking for a Korean name Smile

badtasteflump · 05/12/2016 14:46

How is it pronounced, out of interest?

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:46

Sorry, that's why I said about London :-) sorry for the confusion

It's not entirely clear from your OP, but you need a name that works - in terms of spelling and sound - for both Korean and English? Then Jae fits the bill.
FWIW I know of one Jae and one child who has -Jae as the second part of their name, and they are both girls.

Artandco · 05/12/2016 14:50

A Korean name that works in London, Jae works fine. It's easy to pronounce and once people know the first time it's spelt the Korean way due to heritage it's fine

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:50

Yes, it's a unisex Korean name

Veterinari · 05/12/2016 14:51

Why would we automatically assume that because you live in London you need a Korean name? London isn't in Korea.

Surely the most important info is not that you're in London but that you want a Korean name that works in the U.K.?

With that in mind, yes Jae works fine

Aimtomisbehave · 05/12/2016 14:51

I know a Jae - not short for anything, just Jae. (is a boy, well man now, btw)
Great name

NerrSnerr · 05/12/2016 14:51

Sorry- I didn't realise you wanted a Korean name. There are people from lots of countries in London!!

Artandco · 05/12/2016 14:52

I think 'Nari' would work also

MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:52

I wanted opinions on it. Not if it works, we know it works :-)

Sorry, I did not realise to put it, as was looking for opinions

OP posts:
MrsKim24 · 05/12/2016 14:53

Nari is seen as a girls name, to me and my husband :-)
